What are some corporation/dockyard names you have come up with for your empire?
I've used names from Shadow-run like Saeder-Krupp (weapons) Renraku (computer systems) and Wuxing (jump-drives)
I've also used conglomerates of existing companies, like Lockheed-Boeing, Toyota-Mitsubishi, and Raytheon-Microsoft
Military shipyards are all federally owned and so they are called just "Earth Federal Shipyard 1"
Commercial shipyards are named after companies like "Ares Macrotechnology Void-works" or "Lavokchkin Orbital Slipyards".

Nice SR names, I hadn't ever thought about that.
I use real life companies for stuff that is connected to their existing field and/or products. Naval shipyards are NAVAL-1 NAVAL-2 and so on, commercial shipyards use real life shipyard/transport conglomerate or other business names. So very similar to yours.

I tend to name my shipyards "<something> Yards" like "North American Yards"
Of course the first shipyard in Mars orbit is always Utopia Planitia.
-
I tend to give a name in relation with the ship class I build. Like for example my assault transports are the Narvik, and they are built by the Oslo Shipyards. Or if I build Yakikaze destroyers, they will probably be built by a Japanese themed SY.

In my current game, the shipyards are
Boeing-EADS - Military
ISS-Construction - Military
Tokyo Shipyard - Civy
Bengal Station - Civy
Not gotten far on the company names...

In a real-Earth, near-future start, for shipyards I usually take the names of real shipyards, sometimes with minor cosmetic changes.
Here's the list in my current game:
Kvaerner Stord
Boeing Aerospace
JSC PO Sevmash
47 Nova Kommunara
General Dynamics
RKWS-Atlas Werke
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries
STT-Feretti Group
IAI Ramta Shipyard
Surya Heavy Industries
Tuzla Gemi Shipyard
Navantia-Neptun AG
Austal Orbital Yards
Novaya Zvezda DSME
Pan Gulf Shipyards
Bharati Shipyard Ltd.
Connell & Co.
Same for company names, I usually go with modern day real life defense contractors, Boeing, Saab, Dassault, Rheinmetall, etc.
I'm also running a Star Trek themed game with house rules where I take company and shipyard names from the excellent Ships of the Star Fleet books published back in the late 80s/early 90s.
