Your PDC, command cruiser, and misile destroyer designs are going to have a problem defending themsleves with only one missile fire control system each.  All their missiles (ship-killers and point defense) will automatically be targetted on the same contact.  Even if you light up an incoming missile salvo for just five seconds to shoot it down with your countermissiles, your anti-shipping strike will do an abrupt U-turn in space to chase the same salvo, followed by another abrupt U-turn when you switch targets back to the enemy ships.

Apparently your design team are great afficianadoes of that quintessential teen movie game, Chicken.  #:-]

The PDC does have 2 missile targetting systems, the Gallitronics and Seinar Fleet Systems

How come all your laser PD turrets only have a tracking speed of 10k km/s?

All of your missiles go faster than that - I'd think you would want to design to be able to at least handle missiles at the speed yours go...

Also, your fire control goes to 20k, but due to the turret limit, you are wasting half the fire control capability...

Or am I missing something?

Ahhh... Because I was an idiot and didn't change the turret speeds. ;)

That and my turret gear ratio sucks. Hard. *wanders off grumbling about turrets the size of jump engines*

When I went to upgrade this class with the new PD turrets, I thought to pull out the Havok PD clusters. The original design includes two Seinar Missile Control Units.

I notice your shield technology is several generations behind your weaponry. If these ships ever fight a civil war, it isn't going to last long. It would be spectacular to watch though :)

I'd pumped up the laser and missile tech at the beginning. They just finished researching Soft X-Ray lasers, and I am debating on whether or not to wait for the 40cm beam before upgrading.

I'll need to check the current shield tech, as I think I've improved it somewhat (but not overly much).

I have noticed also that in my designs I rarely go over 10-20 shield components per ship.

I did notice the latest generation of the 350mm cannons ran into the fire control range limitation. And as I think I've maxed out the range on beam control, it seems that 1.4million km is the max range for beams.

That's correct. The 1.4m km range limitation is because Aurora uses a 5-second minimum increment and light can travel 1.5m kilometers in 5 seconds.
