Rodney FACs have been used as first strike crafts, almost as an strategic bombers. Wasps are supposed to be used the same way.

About the cloaking, no enemy ship has been seen with it so its still in labs only, the same with fighters, since we never seen an enemy fighter, we think we are the only ones in space having them...so they are in reality only a fighter bomber really... The first fighter bomber did have anti fighter capabilities, for 30 years and never a fighter in sight, plenty of FACs thou...
Have found 5 extra terrestrial civilization's, 4 of them with space capabilities.

About the shorter capabilities of sensor and fire controls, it was felt that speed was more important... But there is a planned and slightly heavier variant, a bit faster, more armor and anti fighter capabilities.

We are also planning a heavy torpedo bomber with the heavy torpedo, Thor's Hammer, with huge yield of 96 MT a capital shipkiller.
When the admiral in charge saw the mock-up for the bomber his comment was, "Bloody hell! That looks like a bumblebee, it will never fly!" The name stuck and it flies, at-least in space...

The heavy carrier Akagi is proposed to carry 2 squadrons of 27 TBs each, but magazine´s can only hold 2 full reloads.
Having 3 CVAs, Akagi, Kaga and Katsurgi we have to build 162 Bumblebee´s

We are still a long way of to make ECM/ECCM small enough to fit on fighters or torpedo bombers.

The 60k RP tier cloaking gets you a 48 HS or 2400 ton ship with a 7% cross-section, or 168 ton cross-section.  Pretty much guaranteed to outrange missile fighters, especially if it has res 1 sensors.

It would also be significantly more expensive, I expect, and the 6 HS cloaking system cuts into performance as well.  But solid core anti-matter is definitely about the time you should start exploring Cloak as an option for stand off and shoot from out of enemy range missile forces.

Solid core anti-matter tech?  Interesting.  That is about the tech level that cloaked missile ships start having the ability to have smaller cross-sections than fighters, while massively outranging them.

I like the Wasps.  The maint life is interesting.  You could deploy these with no support at a colony world for interim security.  I don't bother researching size 5 HS engines, at least not early in the game.  I just research a 1 HS engine, and put as many as needed on a small craft.  The larger engine is a bit better, if you have it, if your carriers have enough maintenance supplies to repair an engineering or damage failure.

However, given that you lack ECCM on these, having an exact match between fire control and missile is a bit of a mismatch.  Which isn't all bad.  You often want a little more range on the missiles than the fire controls if you are shooting at a retreating target, or at a target that MIGHT suddenly start retreating after you have flushed your missiles.

The Wasps are also interesting because of their huge range.  More of a strategic bomber than a parasite craft.  I would look at somewhat less fuel efficient engines, and get the same speed but with more mass for weapons and/or fire control.  And they can take out enemy FACs at a significant range, and until you have cloak, that is probably your best option against enemy FAC bombers.

My concern about the spitfire is that it absolutely can't engage enemy small craft, costs a LOT more per delivered payload, and would therefore likely have to be escorted by other fighters.  It has as much firepower per hangar space as the Wasp.  I would drop the fighter engineering system on the Spitfire, unless is it a core RP that all ships have some internal engineering.  With its crew endurance, it is never going to be deployed for much beyond a 5-day production cycle anyway, if possible, and dropping the engineering gives you space to double its range.  If you want endurance for RP, go with longer crew endurance, I have a hard time seeing a small crew doing in flight maintenance on a fighter.  Although with 7 crew it is possible.

Latest FAC for the Terran federation navy. Based on the older Rodney class, it replaces Rodneys 7 heavy launchers with 46 small rails.
Almost the double yield, of course smaller warheads but 3 times the speed...

The latest fighter, the Spitfire is 20k faster than the last generation of fighterbombers.
These will be based on the medium and heavy strike carriers of the Federation. There is some concern that 4.1 billion km in range is to small, but time will tell.
