New Wiki Site.
http://aurorawiki.pentarch.org (http://aurorawiki.pentarch.org)
I recommend logging in to do edits and stuff like that. Any emails from the wiki will be coming from my address (same as the board here).
I'd also like to see this forum as a place of "I'll write up screen X"
-
OK, I started the wiki off.

I've written up a long description of the System Generation and Display page in a MS word document. What sort of process should we follow from there?
For the moment I'm guessing that we send it to Steve to review, and then if its accepted should it then be loaded (after any needed edits) into the wiki?
I did not attach any screen shots to the writeup yet, we've all got the software right now and they'd just take up space, but eventually they'll need to be included. Of course they also become something to edit/replace as changes come into the program.

I think you should save it as text and upload it to the wiki.
Then you or someone else (even me) could "wikify it"
Screen shots should be labeled with an Aurora version number, then changed if needed.

I would love to see it as a word document if you want to email to me. I am a total newbie with wiki so I'll let others advise on the nest way to upload the information.

Can you send me your email address? The email feature on the board here doesn't seem to have an attachment feature and the profile doesn't display them. Mine is LMAY@austin.rr.com
I'm also going to try to figure out the wiki thing.

I added text to the System Information page. I think, lol. Somebody that knows how to edit Wikis should review it because this is the first time I've ever fooled with one. The link is here:

Reading it now and it looks great. I am made a couple of very minor changes, adding the information that younger systems have more chance of good mineral deposits (wonder if I ever mentioned that before ) and changing default race to currently selected species in reference to colony cost.
Thanks for the work you have put into this. Its very much appreciated!

Great! Is there a particular page you'd like next? If not I may tackle something big, like the F5 Design screen.

Please go ahead with the design screen. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Is the Rules Wiki still up? I've tried the link and keep getting unable to connect
Welchbloke

It was hosted on another site... That site is gone and I didn't get a chance to make any backups. I can restart it here, but it'll be empty.
-
OK, thanks for letting me know. You could resurrect it here, but it would depend upon whether enough people are keen to maintain it.

No backups! Argh!
Might as well start it up again. At least now we'll know it's up to date...
-
It's still there, just not accessible.
-
Should be available now.
I still need to disable the requirement of phpBB login.
-
Rules Wiki is up. Please login with your username and password from the old board (for the time being). Think I found most of the links to the old board and changed them to here.
-
Is the wiki still being worked on? I'd like to suggest a community portal page and categories to keep things organised and easy to search through. Given a bit longer to work out all the little quirks of the game, I'd be happy to contribute.
-
Due to a recent glut of spam on the wiki (and thanks to those who have been undoing the spam), I've made it so that you need a verified email address to make edits.
I've also protected a number of pages to admin only. If you wish to make a change to one of these pages, send me a message with the change.
-
If by the end of the weekend, there has been no spam on the wiki, I'll unprotect pages. However, I will leave the bit about requiring a valid email address for edits/user accounts.
-
The wiki is currently offline and will most likely generate a 403 error.
The cause of this is my host claiming that the wiki processes are consuming 134% of the CPU. (Neat trick that). Needless to say they are unhappy regardless of the actual usage. Until I can figure out why it is consuming so much CPU, it'll be unavailable :(
-
Hi,
any news about approx. when the wiki may be up again ?
thanx for any info !
-
It's a stock Mediawiki install, with a couple of extensions for security. I can't see any reason why it'd consume so many resources.
-
The wiki is up for now while the host runs new usage statistics.
-
Added a section to the main page for Version history with links to release notes.
Created said release notes page on the wiki :)
-
Added a captcha question/answer to registering on the wiki.
Here are the questions/answers (not like they were self-evident).
question "What planet are you on?", answer "Earth"
question "What is the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything?", answer "42"
question "What is the name of the planet Mars?", answer "Mars"
question "What color is blue?", answer "Blue"
Answers are without quotes.

I've temporarily disabled the wiki as the host is complaining of excessive usage traced back to the wiki. However, I don't see any edits or anything since 2014. So I have no idea what they are talking about.

I hope that wasn't me? I've been reading it compulsively the last few weeks. . . How much of the traffic is from South Korea?
-
I check the wiki a few times a week or even day, half the accesses are probably me but I can't see how that's excessive.
I've always planned on contributing/ improving it but never really got around to it.
In comparison I use the forum far more excessively, refreshing the updated topics a few times a day and I'm trying to read all the old fiction and rules posts.
The wiki isn't using 134% of the servers data is it? :p
-
I'm sure it's not linked to any one person. :) But my eyes are on you two now ;)
I think it is more linked to something trying to run things as a spambot or the like, but it can't and continues to send the query.
-
I miss the wiki terribly. I'm getting re-acquainted with the game and those articles are really useful. Do you expect it to be unavailable for long?
-
There is the new Knowledge Base built into the forums that some people are working on. I think it will eventually replace the wiki so it might not come back at all (don't quote me on that). Also, I use it quite a bit as well, just so I can have some of the math/mechanics easily ready.
-
I didn't even realize we had a knowledge base. Too bad it barely has any articles. I might work on some in my spare time.

I want to see how the utilization goes for a couple more days.
The wiki is updated to the latest version, so if there is a security flaw, it is affecting all media wiki installations.
-
The forum does have everything you need to know about aurora in it, just searching can be a pain.
-
If the utilization remains low, I'll turn the wiki back on, and see what happens then.
-
Mor, this is what I get per our discussion in PMs.
-
Same here, the bottom two are misbehaving. I hopped your setting would fixed that, but its not a big issue, more me being anal, as the magic word is only used on a few background\unseen templates from Wikipedia, and I can always easily substitute it with a parse function (already tested)
-
Had a little time for that today. I put the workaround, it works. I also spent some time organizing some of the other templates (we have a lot of unnecessary and over complicated ones). IMO some Templates can make many things easier, but sometimes they can intimate editors (even though no one need any technical skill to edit pages beyond what necessary to edit posts here on the forum) so its best to keep them organized and documented.
