AD 2329 (January 1) to (December 30)  A Year the Universe Changes

There is always that feeling of a sudden change, when suddenly things once impossible are easily done.  So is it with this year, not from one thing but from a combination of actions and advances that make this year significantly different them preceding.   A good part was the Galicite situation, suddenly it seemed the stockpile on Earth goes from barely more than a few thousand tonnes to 20K tonne even with one shipyard after another resuming production.  Additionally, a pair of key research breakthroughs in Sensors and Propulsion suddenly open up abilities that not many years ago would seem virtually magical.   The fuel farm situation on Earth has also changed, once one of the most closely monitored values of the NCC, now due to the abundance of civilian harverster ships clustered around Jupiter the farm is able to deal even with major military deployments without a problem.  Lastly, the two Jumpgate construction ships operating in the region of Forge-Poesidean finish their tasks linking 3 key worlds to Earth.

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes
This upgrade enhances the ships passive sensor systems.  This will allow the ship to detect Wolver vessels at nearly 100m km if they are using their engines and generally a factor of 2 more than that if their sensors are active.  It gives the scout better passive sensors then the best so far recovered from Wolver wrecks.

BIC Operation in AD Leonis         

Forge traffic control is busy this year, much more so after the completion of the jump gate linking it to the so-called Earth Web.  BIC had very carefully instructed the civilian lines to not even consider "accidentally or otherwise" dispatching colonists to the deadly, hellish site that is Forge.   A minor functionary in BIC gains an immediate promotion for offering the suggestion to divert the last produced O'Neil orbital hab to Forge.  This would require a lot of baby sitting as the fuel stores on the habitat were limited but this would solve many problems.  The habitat arrived in Forge orbit in November and the ground colony established in the extinct volcano was shuttered and its population relocated to the habitat, ending the worry of a "dump."  In truth I didn't think the lines would put people on Forge with 2 other targets (Arboria and Poesidean) but noooooo...they dumped 1.6 million people...for a growth rate of -1630%...so...when the next habitat was completed I SMed it to Forge, after in-ordinate amounts of "clear orders" for colonists and infrastructure to be sent to Forge.  I also SMed the populations and infrastructure they managed to sneak past me to Arboria.  Gaaaah!   Construction of jump gates to link Biforst, Rosetta and Sturmheim begins this year.  In August 5th and 6th Squadron exchange for the Wolver watch in Wolf 358.

It is a quiet year in Alpha C as mainly internal transport of materials and the two FHGs occurs.  Significant civilian traffic keeps the traffic control on Faewald busy.  As usual they tend to stress the two habitable worlds colonial infrastructure but so far without significant loss of lives.  Calheme achieves its target value of 0.2 atm oxygen and starts adding water Safe Greenhouse Gas to the atmosphere to encourage the temperature to increase.

15th June    Subtraction of Oxygen from the atmosphere of Calheme has been halted and addition of water vapour to the atmosphere begins

Only the ships of ICG IX, Express Transport Mission II picking up Galacite and the FHG operating in this system disturb traffic control.  It is a quiet year for Biforst.  Interstellar Terraforming Mission I and II are currently engaged in modifying the atmosphere of Asgard to render it breathable.  On that planet is also 2nd Geosurvey team doing a ground mineral survey.

Twilight's industrial park continues to churn out housing and lifesupport systems to be used on the less habitable planets in this system in the future.  By the 13th of May Instellar Terraforming Mission V is in orbit of planet two of the B component now named Gloaming and has begun to alter its atmosphere by adding oxygen.  During March and April IS I and IS III arrive to continue survey efforts.  In June 4th Squadron NCN arrives to carry out the defense and initial jump mission.  The first target is jump point 1 which   is found to connect to Ross 486 an uninspiring red dwarf binary system, where only the B component has any planets and it is located 107 AU from the primary.  The NCN ships move on to jump point 4 which is found to connect to Beta Virginis a F8 main sequence star with 3 planets and 126 asteroids.  Most interestingly a wreck is found to be orbiting a terrestrial moon of the inner gas giant, a moon with a nearly breathable atmosphere.  IS I is summoned to begin the survey operations while IS III is dispatched to jump point 2 which leads to HIP 66675 a red dwarf with six planets. On October 26 Heavy Lift Groups I, II and III arrive with more colonists and further heavy equipment for the colony.  Fuel Harvester Group completes their first delivery to the colonies farm in April and returns to Hotspring in June to resume harvesting operations.

Poesidean continues to bootstrap its manufacturing base plus its resource extraction capacity.  In November Heavy Lift Group VI arrives to transport the existing teleoperated mining equipment to the 6th moon of planet V to join the critical remoting mining sites there.   It will also pick up the stockpile of Galacite and Duranium present at the colony to be transported to Earth when it leaves.  The first Geosurvey team has been performing ground surveys for the last few years, and in July completes a resurvey of planet V's moon 6 discovering a new Neutronium deposit and then returns to Poesidean for R&R.  On October 7 the team returns to work surveying moon 7.

Sturmheim continues to expand its small industrial base over the year.   The main event is the arrival of JCM I, the mission spends September to December building a gate at the systems sole jump point connecting it to LHS 292.

I will call it a day here and complete the update tomorrow or later tonight!   No longer being able to save is a major pain!

AD 2329 (January 1) to (December 31) Part II

BIC Operation in Gliese 408
Arboria's industrial park is in full bootstrap mode.  Tools for a new construction factory, heavy equipment for two mines and enough housing and air conditioning for 1.5 million colonists are produced.  Once the gates on both sides of Lalande 21185 are complete the civilian lines add nearly 15 m people to the colony, increasing it from 25 m to 40 m in a few months.  Thankfully, it has sufficient infrastructure to handle the deluge and for once there are no casualties of a "dump."     The peacekeepers are very busy directing newly arrived colonists around the various settlements.
         
         
BIC Operation in Gliese 526
Rosetta's industrial park completes an expansion of its fabrication facilites 2 Construction Factories and then concentrates on expanding the number of mines present to bring the number of mines up to the standard of twice the industrial parks value.  The teleoperated mines transferred to planet I continue to produce valuable materials.  ICG IX runs a continuous shuttle service between Rosetta and Biforst, on the outbound journey the ships are loaded with support infrastructure reclaimed from the colony and on the return trip they carry colonists who wish to live in the open.   Terraforming proceeds apace and the planets temperature slowly increases as the thickness of the atmosphere is improved.            
   
1st October Addition of Nitrogen to the atmosphere of Rosetta has been halted and the terraforming plants turn to enriching the atmosphere with oxygen.   
         
         
BIC Operation in Gliese 832      
The industrial park on Eureka produces enough housing and additional support infrastructure for 0.52m new colonists.  In March Terraforming Mission IV arrives to bolster the 2 planetary terraforming plants work.  By April the atmosphere is cleared of Flourine and the terraformers begin adding oxygen to the atmosphere.  In August Heavy Lift Groups IV and V arrive with more colonists, heavy machinery for mines, tools for factories and prefab structures for the colony.  In October FHG X expands the fuel farm.  In November, JCM III arrives to build a gate at the jump point to GJ 1002.  In December, Minelayer Mission I arrives for shore leave after having established a chain of comm/sensor buoys covering the two human colonies along this arm of expansion.

The industrial parks on Alambec and Crucible both produce enough housing and lifesupport systems for 0.4 million new colonists.  Considerably more colonists arrive from Sol via the various civilian firms but in addition they bring in additional support infrastructure.  Mostly the colonists come to Alambec, where the number of mines is expanded to 70.  But by the end of the year the focus shifts to Crucible and taking advantage of the increased workforce the 10 more mines are transferred from Earth.  ICG X visits the system dropping off colonists on Crucible and also transferring some from Alambec before picking up the fruits of the systems mine to be shipped back to the hungry industries of Earth.  Fuel Harvester group IX expands the farm on Crucible.

Scouts Fall's industrial base, made up of mines and factories recovered from the Bissau ruins turns out enough housing and lifesupport systems for 0.4m new inhabitants Infrastructure 90+ over the year.     Fuel Harvester group XIII adds to the colonies fuel farm in June, and the recovered Bissau refineries are in operation over the full year adding another 76K litres of fuel.  The supplies recovered from the Bissau are severely depleted regardless of the efforts. Interstellar Transport Groups I and II arrive in March to pick up the ordinance and fighter factories discovered, the remaining elements of a laboratory and the bulk of a ground forces training facility.  ICG I thru VII arrive in March with more colonists and prefabricated sturctures and lifesupport to expand the colony, when they leave they are loaded with those parts of the ground forces training facility the transport groups could not take with them.  In May a terraformer mission arrives to speed up modification of the atmosphere.  The Salvage mission arrives and proceeds to the wreck of Kagero 005 in September and leaves for Earth in October.

BuSurvey Efforts in 2329

HIP 60910
Insterstellar Survey IV has been working on this system in 2328, a blue white dwarf (spectral class A9-IV) with 2 planets and a great number of asteroids (182).  With all surveys done the ships of the survey group leave the system on the 28th of January headed back to Earth for an overhaul and shore leave.  Further exploration will wait on what is found at Gamma Virginis's other jump points.

15th June       An exploration of a jump point in the Gamma Virginis system has revealed the new system of Ross 486

Ross 486 is a binary system of two red dwarf stars (both spectral class M4-V) and only component B has system bodies but it is 107 AU from A and so the further exploration of this system is skipped.   The ships return to Gamma Virginis and make course for jump point 4 which they then probe on the 24th of June.
         
24th June An exploration of a jump point in the Gamma Virginis system has revealed the new system of Beta Virginis   

Beta Virginis is a single star system (primary is a F8-V White main sequence star) with 2 gas giants and a dwarf planet.  But the innermost gas giant has a terrestrial world with a partially breathable atmosphere and most interestingly and worrying obvious indications of wreckage in orbit around it.  The probe force returns to Gamma Virginis and summons IS I forward to conduct the probe.  IS I enters the system with the Purple Violet and Middlesex on July 23 and the probe of the system is finished by the Pathfinder on August 28 and the full survey begins and it is still underway at the end of the year.

After it was decided to explore Beta Virginis with IS I, consultation between Commodore Rebecca Gardner commanding the 4th Squadron led to them being allowed to probe HIP 66675 accessed through jump point 4 not far from the jump point to Ross 695 where the bulk of 4th Squadron remained on station.   HIP 66675 is a single star system with a M0-V red dwarf primary and a planetary system of 3 gas giants, 2 terrestrial and a dwarf planet plus over 300 asteroids.   IS III entered the system on July 23 and the probe of the planets was completed by August 13.  The ships then began gravitational surveys while the Scout class ship Guide began geological surveys.  By the end of the year the grav survey is nearly complete.

NCN Operational Planning

The NCN has convinced both the NCC and the Assembly to authorise the new dockyard required to build battleships.  They are also in the concept phase for the Beaver class Fighter Bomber but are waiting on the development of the box launcher, however several key sensor technologies are developed or planned, the fighter is expected to be close to 500 tonnes and armed with close assault missiles for anti-shipping work.  Work is beginning on a design for a new support ship for the heavy cruiser squadrons based on the light cruiser hull.   The carrier design is dependent on what the Beaver ends up looking like but is expected to be based around a heavy cruiser hull.

Exchanging the current heavy frigate patrol formations for destroyer based ones is planned but it is likely to take several years due to the need for new ships and refits to the existing ones.  This will be accompanied by the restructuring of the existing task forces. 

The NCN is still limited by not having an extra solar base, something the Navy sees as a major stumbling block especially as the volume occupied by human colonies continues to expand.  Being able to maintain destroyers somewhere else would a major strategic advantage, at the moment only Biforst has the mineral production to do so and the colony is off the main expansion routes.

Escort battleship...  ;D That's a first!


It would be insane except for the existence of the Super Salvo of Magic Missiles.  You either need extremely effective layer defenses*, which the NCN lacks the tech for or else you need a very robust ship to soak them down and enough size to mount a lot of weapons to try and deal with the Magics.  And the Warder Class CLE is considered to be the most effective design the NCN has...so a BBE...well the resistance inside the NCN was low.  The plan at the moment is to use their 4 CAs (once they are all available) with a heavy armored Harpoon missile (that basically takes 5 missiles to destroy) and see how deep those bases magazines are.
*The key point is a small ship has to very very effective at stopping the missiles as otherwise it doesn't take very long with say 10 impacts per turn before it is reduced to scrap metal.  A larger ship can have a thicker belt and better screens and more DPPD arrays...so basically it can require several hundreds of more of missiles before it is even in danger.

Ah, yes...ohkay found my imgr account data and now we have an imbedded picture.

Starfire oddly enough has them...and yeah..it is...but honestly the Churchill name is based on reality.   The man himself kept trying to use Battleships as that, beyond the Galipoli action he had pestered the Admiralty to send refit R class battleships into the Baltic after reinforcing their decks and adding to their AA.   He then said "see if you had done that we would be able to use them in the Med!"  The loss of the 8th after it had survived the action in Tau Ceti (with losses but the bulk of it came out) was enough to break through mental blocks.   One thing that still ticks me is that ships can engage in combat for hundreds of turns and their crews learn nothing...but while a ships is getting blown to flinders its crew skill increases...  I do hope Steve is changing this for the C version.

AD 2330 (January 1) to (December 31) Empty No Longer

As the Gallacite stockpile continues to expand (ending the year at nearly 25K) shipyards long idled have been returned to full ship working hours.  A lot of this work is sensor refits of the NCN.   BIC is facing a significant drop in output from Io, and so takes the step of restricting the civilians to using only Io or Venus to pick up colonists all others colonies in Sol are set to stable.  As hoped for but still rather confusingly as the population of Io drops over the year the ability to find people to operate the mines and terraformer plants increases.  The colony ends the year with 100% production efficiency up from the dismal 30% it started the year at.  The available colonization targets are not spreading the civilian colonizer fleet out as much as BIC hoped but at least now not every colony ship going to a single target colony.  BIC also can't fathom why the freighters have not dispersed more as there is more than sufficient trade goods waiting to be picked up to make the trips pay handsomely.  Internally, BIC staff are known to complain that "Herding cats would be child's play in comparison."  Interestingly, a job to move some support systems from Forge to Arboria has sat for the full year unfulfilled.

Captain Jason Martin is promoted to Commodore:               
He began his naval career in 2311 and served first within BIC, eventually commanding an Interstellar Colonization Group, before transferring to BuSurvey where he initially was assigned to the salvage vessel Junkyard.  He was next assigned to the James King as survey mission leader for Intersteller Survey II in 2324 where he served until 2330 where he took command of BuSurvey for a total of 5 days before being promoted to Commodore on April 30.  He is currently assigned to the jump ship Aldebaran as Squadron Commander of the 9th Squadron to gain combat experience.

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes

The update to the Sirocco class improves their anti-shipping laser fire power and more importantly its range.  The Defenceman array is considered
overdesigned as the fire control development is considerably behind its tracking speed.  The new Tracker sensor is welcomed by all command staff. 
It would have saved the 8th Squadron by allowing recon from beyond Magic missile range.  The new Harpoon missiles are shorter ranged but accurate
and in the case of the armoured verson equipped with a layer of ablative armour to make it more resistant to Wolver close in defenses. 
The Auger Prime's missile detection range will change battles as it enable detection of inbound missiles at 1 m km from the ship.

The Fallen class gains extra anti-shipping laser fire power with the forward barbettes now mounting the Koncerz laser arrays.  The Goaltender IV turrets
are overdesigned and it is likely the mark V version will not have so high a tracking speed since it will be at least a decade for the fire control systems to
catch up.  The new Arrow missiles are the most accurate the NCN has ever produced.

The latest refit to the long service Tribal class.  The improvement to the electronic package now gives the ship the same Wolver detection
as the ships equiped with the first gen Tracker sensor.  The other change is due to combat experience a dedicated damage control section
has been added to the ship.  The time taken to repair the damage sustained by 8th Squadron in Tau Ceti is the primary motivation for this change.

BIC Operation in AD Leonis
Traffic control on Forge is busy this year.  The Fuel Harvester groups are in constant flux, moving to or from Blue Sky.  Heavy Lift Groups I to III pass through on their way to Twilight while VI is heading for Poesidean.  In April IS III passes through on the way to Sol.  4th Squadron refuels on June 10 and departs for Sol without pausing for shore leave.  Minelayer mission I arrives July and departs in August for Biforst after its crew enjoys leave.  In mid-August 5th and 6th squadrons swap responsibility for the Wolver watch in Wolf 358, 6th Squadron departs for Sol on August 13.  The next day Heavy Lift Groups I to III arrive in Forge on their way back to Earth from Twilight, departing on the 24th. In December Minelayer mission I returns to Forge on December 4 and departs for Sol on the 9th.                
                     
                     
BIC Operation in Alpha Centauri   

The various planets industrial parks are busy this year.  Faewald produces enough housing and lifesupport for an additional 3.9 m people, plus builds a Mons Hadley class PDC to increase the near orbit defenses of Faewald itself, and lastly produces enough tools for a further 5 factories.  Tientith and Calheme each produce more housing and environmental systems for 0.39 m and 0.33 m people respectively.   On April 9 Interstellar Transport Group I arrives and departs for Earth loaded with minerals on the 19th.  FHG I spends between July 10 and August 13 at Faewald after adding fuel to the colonies farm and is back on station harvesting on August 17.   FHG II makes Tientidth orbit on November 23 and sets out for the gas giant IV on December 30.  Express Transport Mission I collects resources from the various locations in the binary system and returns them to Faewald on June 4.

BIC Operation in FL Virginis
The industrial park on Biforst produces enough life support and housing to expand the colony by 1 m people.  Tools and heavy machinery to expand the industrial park and mining complex on the planet are also produced.  Terraforming Missions I and II arrive in Biforst orbit for leave on July 9 and return to modifying the atmosphere of Asgard on October 12.  On June 3 FHG III arrives to add to the colonies farm and returns to harvesting on July 15.  Minelayer Mission I in in system in October and November updating the key communication buoys before making orbit at Biforst for leave on November 8.  Survey Team Transport Mission II arrives on Nov 20 for shore leave.  The most critical ships are the two jump gate construction ships that are building gates at the jump point to LHS 292 and to Gliese 526 which is still underway at the end of the year.  Both ships stop in at Biforst for R&R.
               
                     
                     
BIC Operation in Gamma Virginis   
The industrial park on Twilight turns out prefabricated housing and support systems for nearly 0.5 m future colonists elsewhere in the system.  4th Squadron departs the system to return to Sol on May 19 and on October 2 IS II arrives to finish the survey of Beta Virginis.  FHG XV arrives to add to the colonies farm on May 23 and resumes harvesting operations at Hotspring on July 14.
                                       
                     
                     
BIC Operation in Gl 493.1
Poesidean continues its bootstrapping efforts improving its industrial park by 2 factories, producing enough heavy equipment for 4 regular and 3 tele-operated mines.  FHG V arrives on April 6 to add to the colonies farm and after shore leave recommences harvesting operation on May 17.  The population of Poesidean is increased by new arrivals from Sol, the shipping lines taking advantage of the gates linking the two systems at last.
               
                     
                     
BIC Operation in Gliese 408
Arboria remains a favorite destination of the civilian shipping lines.  The planets population ends the year at 54.2 million.  The industrial park is in bootstrap mode and produces the tools for a new factory and the heavy equipment for 3 mines.  Additional housing and support services for 1.5m new colonists is produced.  Unfortunately, the basic defenses around Bloomfield port are causing people to complain to the Governor that they feel insufficiently protected.  The peacekeepers are monitoring the situation but so far the small numbers have protestors have been peaceful.
                                    
                     
                     
BIC Operation in Gliese 526
Rosetta's industrial park expands by one factory but turns out sufficient heavy equipment to bring four mines into production.  ICG IX continues its shuttle service the crews spending from September 15 to December 9 on shore leave at Rosetta.  FHG IV arrives to add to the farm on September 19 and is back harvesting on November 8.  The most significant event is the completion of the jump gate to FL Virginis.

Eureka's industrial park turns out shelter and support infrastructure for 0.7m new arrivals.  The civilian shipping firms have been bringing people to the colony thankfully not in sufficient numbers to overload the population.  Heavy Lift Groups IV and V arrive on August 28 and depart on September 15.  FHG X arrives to add to the colonies farm and crew shore leave on December 15.  The Expedition completes a jump gate to the system linking it to the NCC Jumpweb this year and is working on connecting Scout's Fall.

Both colonies tiny industrial parks concentrate on producing shelter and lifesupport systems.  Alambec and Crucible each makes enough for 0.3 m new arrivals over the year.  FHG IX arrives at Cruicible on January 29 is back harvesting on March 11.

A jump gate to Gliese 382 is completed in spring of this year linking that system to the NCC jumpweb.  The last gate required to connect Biforst and Rosetta is under construction from December 14.

Scout's Fall's industrial park churns out enough housing and support services for 0.47 m colonists, the refinery is now producing 76K litres of sorium fuel per year.  ICG I thru VII arrive on May 16 and very carefully top up their tanks for the return trip, leaving on June 2.  The ships will largely be running on fumes when they arrive at Earth but the current fuel farm level cannot fully load that many ships.  FHG XIII arrives on July 29 to add to the severely depleted fuel farm and returns to harvesting on September 16.  The 1st NC Construction Bde continues attempting to recover alien equipment and return it to working order, it is mostly successful over the year.

NCN Operational Planning

BuEng presents the conceptual design for the Beaver Fighter-Bomber but development is delayed until the next generation of small craft engines are available.  Minor tweaks to the design will likely also occur but it is approved for advancement to a full design once the engines are ready for use.  Unfortunately, the conceptual design for the CVE Firefly class is running into space issues, the ship is intended to carry two Beaver squadrons plus auxiliaries and that much hanger space has already cost the ship significant defenses and put paid to the original plan to arm it with a pair of close assault missile launchers.  BuEng is struggling to find space on the ship for the hanger bay to support its mission aims.  There is some hope that a more efficient jump drive may solve the issue.

The refits to the NCN combat ships are proceeding, with the ships needed for Operation Pinnacle or else patrol duties prioritized in the queue.  It will still take some time to bring all the ships up to the most modern standards.

Planning for Operation Pinnacle is well advanced.  The force will consist of 7th, 9th and 10th Squadrons once they are through refit.  The target system is HIP 51317.  Two Tama and Three Hiryu class ships are present in the system according to the records of the previous operations.   The armament of the Tama are unclear but the Hiryu are armed with a 3 missile tubes and that part of the force is identical to the Wolver presence cleansed from Tau Ceti with Operation Mars and November.

More significant for the NCN is planning for a revamp of their force structure.  The work is still in the initial stages and the refits are delaying the required construction.  1st Fleet will be re-organized into 2 Task Forces of 3 Task Groups.  Each Task Group will be 3 Squadrons strong.  The specialist formation to cover survey operations will be expanded and removed from 1st Fleet itself and assigned to an independent Task Group.  Task Force 1 will be the patrol and garrison units while Task Force 2 will be tasked with offensive operations.  A reorganization of the existing command staff will also occur to most efficiently utilize the existing senior officers.

The only colony with all minerals available to it (on site and not being mass driver delivered) is Biforst.  A colony is generally established if water is present on an otherwise habitable rocky world.  All colonies have duranium to support infrastructure.  Calheme is the only one with availability 0.1 though there is another with 0.2 (Sturmheim).  So all colonies generally get 1 Construction Factory, and 2 Mines shipped to them each time a 2xICGs or a Heavy Lift Group transports colonists.    That ratio is generally held.   Faewald, Poesidean and Biforst have pretty solid industrial parks and the other colonies are much less.  Rosetta, Eureka and Scout's Fall all had or have ruins so a good chunk of their parks are recovered alien production factories.  Alembic and Crucible both lack water and they are viewed more as being terraformed to provide "shirt sleeve" mining environments rather than as true colonies....they both have minimal parks as well.  BIC views the industrial parks more as a "safety feature" so if something was to happen to block shipments the colony would have some chance of providing for itself.

Earth's Industrial park is about twice the sum of all the others...527 factories at the moment...the number goes up and down as they are shipped off or new ones are added.

AD 2331 (Jan 1) to (Dec 31) The End of the Development

This year sees the development of the final stage of engine over-boosting.  This is a key technology for small craft and missiles.  It will for the future simplify engines for both down to one or two series per propulsion type.  For the moment though it is a significant advance for counter-missile tech allowing for a reduction in the missile volume used for boost velocity.  For other missile types or small craft the dramatic increase in fuel required results in the extra space freed up being used for fuel storage in the main.  The anti-shipping missiles will not see the same level of advancement until the next propulsion system is developed.  It also makes development of further fuel efficiency a requirement.  Small craft of all types have their designs modified to incorporate new engines resulting in significant speed increases but also in an increase demand for onboard fuel storage.

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes
The Pound is the bigger cousin to the Quiver class.  It will be deployed with Sirocco class cruiser squadrons.  Its hanger space is intended to allow repair and resupply of all existing NCN small craft.  It has extensive hospital facilities, including the ability to put up to 200 casualties into cryogenic sleep for transport to a better medical facility.

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes
This is a long awaited update to the largest of the Jump Ships in NCN service.  Its jump drive can now open a portal long enough for 4 other ships to transit and can deposit them up to a quarter million Km from the jump point nexus.  It has expanded capacity for accepting casualties as well as recovered crew plus facilities for putting into cryo sleep severely wounded survivors.  It retains its functions as a secondary collier and tanker.  Its electronics package has been substantially improved.

This is the ultimate A-class Starslayer.  It is smaller and faster than the A3 and armed with a more powerful laser.  The laser's range is limited by the fire control but even so the improved tracking speed of the fire control will allow most Wolver ships to be engaged more easily as they will only need to loose a single engine to stop having tracking speed issues.  Fewer engines is a significant volume saving but this is offset by an increase in fuel bunkerage and even so the class has a reduced operational radius.

BIC Operation in AD Leonis

Forge traffic control as usual is busy with the considerable amount of ships passing through the system.  Fuel harvester groups move back and forth between Forge and Deeper Sky adding to Forges Fuel Farm.  6th Squadron replaces 5th on the Wolver watch in Wolf 358, 5th Squadron heading directly to Sol and a waiting refit on February 12.  On the 19th Minelayer mission II pauses for a few days R&R before heading to FL Virginis to update the comm buoy network.  Jumpgate Construction Mission II arrives in Forge orbit on March 14 and departs for Earth on April 10.  Minelayer mission II is back in Forge orbit on the 16th of April.  ICG X takes shore leave at Forge from April 19 to 24 after delivering parts for a new defense base to Arboria.  In mid June-early July Heavy Lift Groups I-III, and VI are all giving their crew shore leave.  The first three groups depart for Sol on July 6 and the VI on the 18 after loading Gallicite transported from Biforst.  Jumpgate Construction mission I arrives on the 26th of June and after extensive R&R the crew departs for Earth on the 13th of August. On September 30, 5th Squadron is back to relieve 6th Squadron and let them finish refitting.  Heavy Lift Groups I-III are back on October 30, refueling and giving their crews leave before leaving for Twilight on November 5.  IS II stops in briefly for a rebunkering on 13 November then proceeds to Sol.

         
BIC Operation in Alpha Centauri         

Faewald's industrial park produces housing and life support for 4.7m new colonists.  It also refits the PDC LP Dwarfhold and constructs tools for 3 new construction factories that are shipped to Tientidth.  Calheme's industrial park completes enough housing and life support for 0.47 m new arrivals before stopping production.  Tientidth's industrial park produces the same amount of housing and support systems over the full year.  FHG II resumes harvesting operations on 12th January.  FHG I returns to Faewald to add to the farm on June 29, remains in orbit giving its crew shore leave until the 4th of August and is back harvesting on the 8th of the same month.  In November the support ships of 1st Squadron are present to refuel the returning Interstellar Salvage Mission on the 12th.  Minelayer mission II completes the update of the communication buoys in Alpha Centari and Epsilon Indi on the 9th of December.

The most important news is from Calheme and surprisingly for all involved in the terraforming effort on the 24th of June the planet can be classified as full habitable, if somewhat on the cool side.  BIC decides to move the industrial facilities to Tientidth as that planet will need infrastructure until its terraforming is complete.   
         
24th June   Due to the increasing temperature the ice sheet on Calheme has melted increasing the albedo to 1.18 and warming the planet significantly, with the average temperature now -6.7°C   
         
         
BIC Operation in FL Virginis         

The industrial park on Biforst produces enough housing and support systems for 1 m new colonists.  It additionally produces the heavy equipment for a new mine, refits the LP Pontoon Heights to the latest standard and expands the park by one factory.  On January 11th the JCM II completes the gate linking Gliese 526 to FL Virginis.  On June 5th FHG III is in Biforst orbit for shore leave and this ends on the 11th of July, they are back harvesting on the 13th of that month.  Upton arrives from Sol to survey two more planets in the system, stopping at Biforst on the 28th of November for a brief shore leave.  Upton departs on December 3rd for the outer system planets.

The Second Geosurvey Team is active this year completing the survey of Asgard and the dwarf world B-I.

BIC Operation in Gamma Virginis

The industrial park on Twilight produces enough prefabbed housing and support infrastructure for 0.63m colonists elsewhere in the system.  Heavy Lift Groups I-III arrive on the 18th of January and depart on the 26th for Sol.  The have brought in 0.18m new colonists plus orbital surveillance arrays and machinery for mines and factories.  Interstellar Terraforming mission V arrives at Twilight orbit for shore leave on May 2.  On July 19, FHG XIV makes Twilight orbit to add to the growing fuel farm and to give its crews R&R.  On July 23, Interstellar Terraforming mission V departs for Gloaming and arrives there to resume atmosphere modification the next day.  On July 29 FHG XIV departs and on August 14 is once again harvesting sorium fuel.  Interstellar Terraforming mission VII arrives from Sol on October 19, and its crews are finished with leave on the 5th of November, arriving at Gloaming to join ITM V two days later.
            
         
BIC Operation in Gl 493.1

Bootstrapping of the local industrial park on Poesidean continues with three new factory complexes, heavy machinery for five mines, and the equipment for two telepresence operated mines produced.  On March 7 Heavy Lift Group VI arrives from Sol after transferring the two telepresence operated mines to IV-Moon 6's extraction facilities.  The ships leave for Sol loaded with Gallicite on March 12.  FHG V arrives to add to the fuel farm on May 9, departs after R&R on June 20 and is back harvesting fuel the next day.  On October 13 Survey Team Transport mission arrives at Poesidean to give the ships crew leave.

On the 10th of June Governor Lucas Alexander is killed along with a dozen other members of the local administration when the light aircraft they were using to visit remote mining sites suffers a fatal power loss on landing.  He is replaced by Archie Barton who is sent out via courier once the news reaches Earth.  Mr. Barton is only 22 but is one of the most qualified members of BICs administration.  He takes over in a ceremony on 1st of October.

The Industrial park expands by one factory complex but each new factory makes a significant contribution to how fast the next will be completed.  It is an otherwise quiet year for the colony, the main traffic insystem is the occasional civilian line transport.

Arboria's growing industrial park produces sufficient housing and air conditioning for 1.5m new colonists, adds a new factory complex and the heavy machinery for mineral extraction.  Additionally, in response to the growing demand for better colonial defenses a pre-fabricated Atlantis U1 class base is brought on line.  At the end of the year the Bloomfeld Skywatch is undergoing refit to the most modern standards.
   
                  
BIC Operation in Gliese 526

Rosetta continues the expansion of its industrial park and system resource extraction capacity.  One new factory complex, machinery for two mines and one telepresence operated mine is produced.  ICG IX continues to do a shuttle between Rosetta and Biforst moving support infrastructure to Biforst and returning with new colonists.  FHG IV arrives on October 23 to add to the farm, departs on December 3 and is harvesting fuel on the 8th.

Eureka's industrial part adds sufficient housing and environmental support for 0.87m colonists.  FHG X completes their scheduled leave on January 26 and is back harvesting on Febuary 17.  Heavy Lift Group IV and V arrive on September 3 and leave for Sol on the 18th of that month.
   
         
         
BIC Operation in Lacaille 9352   

The industrial park on Alambec provides for 0.31m new arrivals while that of Crucible for 0.39m.  The managers search for the reason for the scheduling difficulties on Alambec without success.  On March 14 FHG IX makes Cruicible orbit to add to the Farm and gives the ships crews leave.  That is completed on the 24th of April and the next day harvest activities resumes.  The civilian lines are busy in this system but BuCol is likely to rate each planet as "stable" soon as there is every indication the lines are just moving populations back and forth between the two worlds.

On May 12 Jumpgate Construction Mission I completes the gate linking this system to FL Virginis.  This means that Biforst, Rosetta and Sturmheim are all connected to the NCC jumpweb.  The ship heads for Forge for refueling and leave.

Scout Fall's industrial park concentrates on expanding the capacity of the colonies support infrastructure adding sufficient for 0.47m colonists.  By spring a jump gate linking this system to Luyten 347-14 is completed, 3 further gates must be completed to link this system to the NCC jumpweb.  On July 6th ICG I-VIII arrive from Sol, after shore leave and very careful partial refilling of their bunkers they depart on the 23rd.  FHG XIII makes Scout's Fall on August 27 and departs on October 5 to resume harvesting operations 2 days later.

Recovery of ruins continues with the 1st NC Construction Bde managing to bring several Bissau installations back into operation.

Beta Virginis   

The NC Xenoarcheology team is, in an astoundingly short time, able to translate the language of the Mazatlan Kingdom and a significant number of sites with archeological significance are pinpointed.  The survey of the asteroids of the system are completed by the end of the summer and the ships of IS II leave the system in September bound for Sol.
      
5th January    Ruins on Beta Virginis-A I - Moon 16 have been fully surveyed by the NC Xenoarcheology Team. The alien race which inhabited the planet as been identified as the Mazatlán Kingdom and their language and symbiology have been translated.  103 abandoned installations were found which may be recovered by an construction brigade

Sol
Two of the 4 remaining un-surveyed comets are close enough to the inner system that the Upton is dispatched to conduct a mineralogical survey.  The results are unfortunately not sufficient to induce investors to establish mines on either comet.  But both have minerals that the NCC is interested in and are put on the list for exploitation in the future.  The Upton is dispatched to FL Virginis to complete the survey of the systems more remote planets.

NCN Operational Planning

Refitting of ships continues apace.  Operation Pinnacle looks to be possible in 2332 or early 2333 depending on the rates of the refits to the Warders of 9th Squadron.  10th and 7th Squadrons complete the bulk of their refitting this year.  A further requirement for Operation Pinnacle is the refitting of 2 squadrons of Starslayers to the A4 variant. 

BuEng is of two minds about the latest batch of Anti-shipping missiles.  They are clearly building for the future but with the current fuel consumption of the Flashiest and Bolt engines the savings in space has been largely eaten by the need for more fuel.  BuEng with some reluctance authorised the development but will test the new missiles in combat before deciding to retire the older batch.  Based on this the development of further research into improved fuel efficiency is prioritised over new engine technology.

Production of Tribal class destroyers will soon be able to resume allowing for construction of sufficient Tribals to start forming patrol groups that would allow for the retiring of the heavy frigate groups and then provide for NCN presence in the Eureka-Scout's Fall arm.

This is the last update before likely late January, my Christmas holidays may allow me to get some more turn advanced or not, depends on what else ends up needing being done.  Writing up over the holidays the last few years has shown suffers from the small screen size of my laptop.  So to all of you a Merry Christmas; a safe, happy and health holiday season and all the best of exploding starships for 2020.

There may be 3 operations in fairly rapid* succession...it depends first on how Pinnacle goes in terms of ship losses and then how the heavily armoured missiles perform against the super salvos of Magic's.   But all the ships needed for Quatloo are built...and if it works then after rebuilding stockpiles of missiles Remise will repeat the attack on the bases in the other system they have been so far found.   But the NCN wants to eliminate the mobile assets they know of.  Then deal with the fixed defenses.

*for Aurora anyway...I'm not sure how long it will take to make 500 of the armoured missiles...that will be the rate determining step

Just a short update...basically turn progress has been slow due to the usual suspects for this time of year...my Christmas vacation, jet lag and recovery from the jet lag.  Additionally, the NPRs have had 3 battles the last of which is still ongoing after 30 min worth of 5 s turns and this only half way through the game year...I'm very unsure how long the rest of the year will end up taking at this point since I've never seen this level of NPR combat.  Something major is going down somewhere is the best I can say.  I can say that the NCN will not be launching any offensive op's this year as ships are still being refit, but depending on how things go, the next ingame year could be intensive from my point of view.   At the moment; however, I'm stuck with trying to get past the NPRs fighting each other.

I hear you - nothing like 5sec hell for couple of hours to make one despair!

Just out of curiosity, will you stick with this campaign even after C# comes out or will you try to recreate it or perhaps do something completely new?

My plan is to do something completely new so a non-Earth start...with random stars sorta thing, or whatever options go in that direction in the new version.   Though I may wait for a few releases to let the bug situation stabilize so it is likely this will continue for a while after release.  I've been thinking of a plasma carronade race...yeah I like a challenge...

It has been a lot of "auto turns" click "30 seconds" and look for those times to show up...I have no idea what the NPRs are doing...and why now.  But I spent like 3 days over the holidays getting through the last one....this new one has already gone on longer...

Wow...it is now over 3 in-game hours worth of 5 second turns...at this point I'm utterly baffled by what is going on...this is like the equivalent on one starslayer killing the entire civilian fleet...I have no idea how a battle can extend to 3 in game hours....as the SM event still says ships are maneuvering in weapons range...I am keeping on with the auto turns...hopefully this ends soon!
