My first warship
« on: January 15, 2010, 06:50:59 PM »
Can you guys give me some plans? I'm not the best at making warships, so please give me the components of one of your intermediate warships(This meaning a fleet of 5 of them won't have a hard problem dealing with an alien fleet)with the accompanying designs for the missiles/fire controls etc. All that stuff. Anyway, it'd be much appreciated.

It depends a lot on your tech and how you have put that tech together to create a component.

You might find it best to flick through the ship design sub-forum or read some of Steve's latest fiction - skim through the thread looking for the quoted text which shows all his designs.

I tend to build a fleet around 1 or 2 large ships, about 2x that number is smaller escorts, and an equal number of missile defense escorts.

well i tend to build 1 jump capable collier+radar/radar+pd platform and 4 carriers (mostly with own pd systems) with 10cm laser armed ftrs(300tons), however gb/ftr engines are not cheap techs. missile fighters are worthless without revolver(0.25x)/box(0.15x) launchers, and laser ftrs are better on start even without 0.75 laser reduction tech. ftrs are cheap and dont hit economy so much if u lost even a lot. most precursor/nprs seems to not detect 300tons ftrs, especially if u have missile ones at 2m range. u keep carrier group out of enemy range as long as possible
only - i found in this tactic is u have to manually do a lot more in a battle than u would do w/o ftrs, and jp assault is a bit hard with this group (later use specialised assault groups)

Engines, active sensor, missile fire control, missile launchers, magazine space, a couple of CIWS, engineering spaces and extra levels of armour.  Oh, and probably extra crew quaters and fuel tanks.
