C# Scenario Depot
« on: March 22, 2020, 11:33:31 AM »
With C# coming in the next we 7-10 days, one suggestion which I think might be useful is perhaps a 'Save Game' exchange.  I was very intrigued with Steve's BSG setup and with SM and liberal use of naming files, the community could come up with some very interesting initial starts especially if the SM tool is robust enough or gets additional love in post-release.  I can see possibilities beyond that as well - perhaps I don't want to play another exploration and expansion game so I download someone's 200 year advanced tech 100 system empire facing multiple hostile NPRs. Aurora doesn't and won't have mods and that is cool - but there can be a robust save exchange and that could be very exciting.

Especially the ability to add/delete and move system bodies is going to allow plenty of interesting setups.  I'm currently planning a 1700's age of sail setting (with pre-generated galaxy) of which I intend to release 3 versions for the community; an empty one (no races pre-planted, for player customization), a start with 8 player races and a start with 16 player races.  But I'm very interested in seeing what else the community as a whole will come up with  :)

I've been gearing up for an Attack Vector : Tactical themed game for when C# comes out. Unfortunately the original map requires some stars to be in positions they're actually not in, so I had to come up with my own starmap. I'd love to share this scenario.

Right now I've just been copy-pasting the database in VB6 Aurora to shift between scenarios/savegames, but I'm not sure how wise that actually is. If Steve doesn't have the time to implement a savegame system, we can still trade the actual game database to the same effect, if C# still uses an accessible database like VB6.

Very good idea, this scenario/save game exchange, lets learn from others! But will a save game be a file independent from others, or a all-in-one proposal as Aurora VB?

I have a question about initial settings. What is the setting or check boxes to have so that a NPR is guaranteed to be "nearby". Not too close, not too far. Ideally if I could specify a bracket in jumps, that would be ideal, like must be between 5 and 12 jumps from initial home system.

Something that would be cool too, like others 4X is to be able to define several NPR parameters from the start, distance from home system and bonus points/size... Think like Stellaris, Gal Civ, or even oldies like Space Empire IV / V ...

Ive got an idea to do a War of the Worlds game atm for c# with a few WWII factions and a Martian Faction within SOL. The Human factions are Just TransNewtonian and the Martians are Transnewtonian but with some extra tech and its set just after the events of the War of the Worlds. Im not sure if i should make the Martians NPR or not atm though.

You mean, the Great Martian War of 1913-1917?  http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php?topic=10493.0

Not quite pre-ww1, my scenerio is set in 1939, in an alternate history where the Martians attacked just before onset of world war 2. after Mass Devastation and a long campaign to kick the martians off Earth (Most die due to the common cold like in the story but some dont). The Allies and the Axis Main powers discover the Martians used Trans Newtonian technologies to get to earth. So there is a new arms race to both get Trans Newtonian tech and to defend earth from a potential new invasion all the while trying to ensure Neither the allies, axis (and Soviets) dont get an advantage over the other. Whilst the Martians seeing a counter invasion coming are in a rush to find a new home outside of the Sol system.

I have a question regarding my personal setting (well, the one I would like to implement I mean, the setting is neither original or private to me  ;D ).

Would it work, both from a performance issue and for a game balance issue to cram 7 nations on Earth? Because my plan is to play with these power blocks:

United Nation of Earth (me, the player), a semi-loose aglomerate of Europe plus 30+ countries of Earth
USA
Russia
China
Pan-Arabic League (following the collapse of Iran and a great syncretism of the 2 main Islamic faiths)
Mercosur (South America)
Japan & Korea

So 7 ... On a single planet... Will I smoke the CPU? Is there enough room for these 7? How will they expand in the solar system if left to their own devices? So many questions...  8)

That would run in VB6. in fact, I have run larger games, but it will be slow.

In C#, it should run OK. It will still be slower than a 'normal' game, but much faster than VB6. Based on my experience in my current test game with 5 races in Sol, I would have more jump points in Sol than normal. Perhaps 6.
