Redirect or Self-destruct Missile Salvos
« on: August 23, 2012, 08:26:53 PM »
Like it says on the tin.  How do I do either of those things?

I have a salvo of missiles with active sensors that can't find anything.  I can't make them go anywhere, and I can't blow them up, so I'm stuck with 5 second increments until they run out of gas.

Self-destruction can be done via the f8 menu, theres a missiles in flight tab with a destruct missile/destruct all missiles in system option. Redirection I think only happens if the missile has an onboard sensor. I don't think that trips the interrupt time though, something else is causing it to go in 5 second increments.

The on-board sensors will redirect the ordnance if there is a valid target within range.  You cannot redirect them.  As Nathan_ noted you can destroy them though.

Okay, so changing a salvo's target using fire control on the ship that launched them is an old thing that got taken out of the game?  I've seen some references to that floating around in AARs and old threads.

It was removed 5-6 years ago when missiles were redesigned.

By the way, what happens if you destroy the ship that directs the missiles?

Missiles without on board sensors self destruct.  Missiles with on-board sensors continue on the vector they were sent to the anticipated intercept location.  As long as the enemies are still there the on board sensors lock on and intercept.
