Combat Engineers.

Are construction brigades the only units that can excavate alien ruins, or can combat engineer battalions also do it? Version 6.2

Don't quote me here but I believe that only construction brigades are capable.

From Steve's 6.0 mechanics thread
Quote
The existing Engineer Regiment is now the Construction Brigade. Apart from the name change, everything is the same as before.

There is now a new Combat Engineer battalion, which has the same combat strength and cost as a Marine Battalion. Instead of the marine bonus for fighting on ships, it has double strength when attacking or defending a PDC

So to answer your question, only CB can excavate.

Damn. How many battalions in a brigade? I need to build a ship big enough to transport a brigade. How come CBs are only available in brigade size?

Hmmm... Do all 5 battalion slots have to be o the same ship? or just the same task force? Must be the same ship. My QRF(quick reaction force) is 12 battalions. They are carried in 3 ships with 4 slots each. If you are sure it is 5 I can use my actual combat drop ships. I hate to pull them from the front though. I definitely don't want to dispatch a liberty ship for that purpose though.

For Aurora...

Brigade - 1 Brigade HQ + 4 Battalions
Division - 1 Division HQ + 4 Brigades

You may transport them any way you wish.  You only gain the HQ bonus when the HQ is on the same planet with it's subordinate units.

Units smaller than a brigade may be transported in battalion sized transports. CB's need to have all 5 on one ship. Can't split a unit between different transports.
