I used to keep old Boilerplate designs with the old armour levels on them. FOr making target drones or whatever.

As the title says, can i purposely use old armor on new designs? If so, how?

No you can't and based on the mechanic there are no point in doing that. New armour are just better.

Since the mechanic is that new armour just take less space there are no point in using older armour on a new design.
Not exactly true. Different armor types use different kinds of minerals, so it might be desirable to use an older type when in a mineral crunch. This is a lot of work for a relatively small gain, though, and I have never had a crunch bad enough that this was necessary.

That is true... I forgot about that...  but in essence newer armour is always cheaper in industrial cost but the type of resource distribution can change somewhat.

Another reason for keeping armour can be for retooling cost of ships you upgrade of course.

I think what you could do is each time you get a new armor tech, just create a blank design with that armor, and then later copy that design and add what you want.  Just name the design after the armor type, to make it easier to find for that purpose.

The only way is to rework an old class into a new design without changing the armor.

Is there any way to enable it? I want to do so for RP purposes.
