Someone on reddit posted a system I'm planing to give a try - prefix system names with the shortest jumppoint route from Sol.  So "3112 Barnards Star" would be reachable from Sol by gong through JP3->JP1>JP1>JP2.  Should make it much easier to find systems on the galactic map, and to pick the right JP for movement orders.
That is the same system that I use, and it works like a charm.  The only downside is that renaming breaks using themes.

It is very usefull, just don't forget to update the names when you found a new shorter link.

And depnding on how you do it, regularly changing the System Name Theme can help - for instance, each JP from Sol in my current game uses a different naming theme, so it's really easy to know which direction of the map to look in for any given system name.

Industry screen and sort by star and then find it on the galactic map. Its not ideal but the galactic map allows you to access the main UI buttons so its better than nothing.
Sorting by star is also great for systems with more than one star as it will show which colonies are around which stars.
