Title: Comments thread - RotW
Post by: Rabid_Cog on October 21, 2012, 04:41:00 PM
Here you can feel free to leave comments about anything without feeling guilty for upsetting the continuity of the story thread of Rise of the Wrix. This will hopefully have the dual purpose of being a place you can ask questions (and criticize) and keeping me interested in this.
Title: An idea
Post by: Rabid_Cog on November 07, 2012, 12:16:46 PM
I figure I would put this in here so I don't spam my subforum (my shiny, shiny subforum :D) full of threads.

I've been thinking that, since the new version of Aurora is out (and I really like the changes!) that perhaps it is time for the Wrix to have a rebirth of sorts. Basically, that would entail scrapping the current game and trying to find a system that is reasonably similar to their current home system (binary, 4 x col cost 2 planets, 2 around each star). It should not be so difficult.

The benefits of this will be several. It will allow me to speed up the turns which are already taking upwards of ten seconds to generate due to the size of the NPR. It will also reduce the size of said NPR back to one system, fixing the 'catchup' situation I find myself in. In addition, it will allow me to jump ahead in time a little, speeding things along. After all, there is nothing wrong with skipping a few boring years, is there?

Edit: Of course, I will definately be waiting for Aurora 6.2 before doing this. No point in having to do it twice, now is there? In addition, SM races are currently broken. That needs to be fixed before this is a possiblity.

Ah, so this is why rise of the wrix wasn't showing up in my unread posts. Now I feel silly. I should check the individual forums next time.

Love the way you're writing the conversion. Heh.

So that you are aware, the current incarnation of Aurora the Civilian shipping lines are voracious builders.  I am 20 years in on a game and have 6 lines with over 50 ships.

I know you haven't played much recently and didn't know if you were expecting this so thought I would mention it so you could plan your story accordingly.

Thanks, that is actually useful information. This is my first game played with the new mechanics.

Luckily, this would not only help a lot, it would actually fit the story very well. I just have to keep it in mind.

Thankfully, Steve has programmed the civilians with the ability to obsolete their old ships.  After about 10 years or so you will start to see them scrap and replace the older ones one at a time.

when in doubt, factionalize?

A GMC can only handle a quarter million a year. In a timescale long enough for that to be significant, a free GMC probably isn't a major bonus. But yeah, that's a perfect excuse to split the factions further.

Yeah, I guess a free GMC isn't much, game mechanics wise. It's RP value however is pretty huge. It confirms the geneticist's theories and basically announces that yes, this is a viable strategy. In addition, it provides some key clues on how to put those theories into practice.

I think I'm going to SM myself the base genetics technology to represent this, if LA can spend some time on First Stop studying the place or if I can ship it back to Wrixom (haha no).

Do you even have any TN combat units other than Construction Brigades? Heh.

Uhm... nope. Nor do I actually have the transport capability to move any of them if I get them. I sort of cheated my first Construction Brigade over.

Heh. It's going to take a while to recover from that then. Though, it seems like you could SM in some low tech infantry to represent suicidal drone hordes. Might kill half the population of the colony, but...

Yeah, this is a good time to reveal a special ability of the Wrix. I never actually thought it would be significant due to how the game works and how the AI acts, but it might actually be relevant! I'll try to post an update soonish, but these fluff-heavy pieces are quite exhausting and time consuming.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread to post in, but this is a pretty good story you have going here and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Nah, this is the perfect thread to post in. Its a lot of fun for me to read this stuff months afterward as well, when I've forgotten what I've written.

Still not back, just throwing out updates every once in a while when I feel the urge.

A quick comment: reading through my story again, it seems I left out the entry for 17 April 2026 in which I find a research facility among the ruins of Wrixom, later named the RSC. I typed up the entry in my word document, I just missed it when I copied it to the thread. Sorry about that. I've edited it in in the correct place, although those of you who have already read through the whole thing may not notice. To help, I've tagged it in the post itself.

Is this alive or dead? (or in some sort of stasis). You have created a great universe and I hope it's still going.

A kind of stasis is a good way to put it. I have ideas for a continuation of this story with C# Aurora. I'm still around and I still regularly read the forum. Thanks for your voice of support!
