Go BIG or go home
« on: April 10, 2014, 06:55:28 AM »
I started out with a bunch of Naval shipyards and few civilian ones, so I SM combined them into 2 destroyer yards at 12500, and one Humongous carrier yard...

Here is the hilarity of what a "Big Ship" navy can look like at medium tech.

Of course, the shortage of civilian yards meant I had no way to make gate ships or jump tenders of sufficient size to jump an Enterprise... so I refitted to a Enterprise B after almost 10months of research.

Oh, and the non-starting OOB cost of an Enterprise-B is about 2.5yrs without pre-built components.

this 125kt monster has like 40 cobras x size 6 missiles long strike capability only
i dont really count 2 size 25 tubes as I doubt they can break any real PD

also cobras has 24 m km fire control and use 200m km missiles

Your carrier is slow and has almost no defenses at all.  Paper thin armor, even a handful of reasonable powerful missiles could wreck it.

Yep.  Slow, paper-cut protection only.  Of course, I did say the hilarity of a "big ship" fleet.

None of you noticed that there is a Res 10 scanner with a range somewhere between the orbits of Uranus and Saturn?  Or that the Enterprise B can dock and repair full-sized cruisers?

Or that the magazines hold several years worth of missile production?  In the real world, someone building a diesel powered Nimitz\Sacramento\Floating Drydock combination would be called a "vanity project."

This does not mean that in an integrated fleet, it doesnt kick ass.   It just REALLY needs an upgrade to speed and protection.  The -C model is going to lose more magazine space, add another (new model) engine, and get shield generators.

The cobras definitely need box launchers, without them you basically can only throw out a salvo of 40 missiles from your entire carrier group, likewise look into cutting their engineering percentage, its way way too high if they can remain in flight for 2 years. Are those MagCon drives or Magnetoplasma drives?

Mag Con, and the Cobras have 6missiles each, so that'd be 30*6 180 from a full Enterprise-B group, or 240 from an Enterprise-A.  Honestly, though, the Cobras are mostly place holders for the future, but they should work pretty well against a certain 800ton spoiler...  that I havent seen in my last 4 campaigns, but whatever.

Also, the Enterprise B is 1kt smaller than the A variant and thus can't mass jump with any A's.

The A models were never fielded outside Sol - the jump drive was huge enough as is, and a larger JD would have meant even more reduction in capability.  In fact, only one was built, and it was refitted as soon as the JD was researched and the design finalized.
