Um, what?
« on: March 26, 2013, 04:51:30 PM »
I just saw something I was not at all expecting.

I designed a cargo ship and started shipping infastructure from Earth to Luna and Mars when suddenly a Light Blue contact appeared at earth.   A massive 74,950 Ton ship.   At first I figured I was dead because I thought it was an alien ship.   But then I looked at my shipping companies and one of the built a ship so big its impossible for me to build at my tech level.   The only cargo ship I have designed so far is only 28,550 tons and is very very slow because of my low engine tech.   So I dont know how they expect that 74,950 ton ship to move.

My understanding was that the commercial shipping lines only used ships that you designed for them.   Was that changed? Also, how did they built it? My commercial ship yard can only build 30,000 ton ships tops.

*EDIT*

Apparently it moves at 607 kms.  Just a tad less then 6 times faster then my own cargo ship.

(The ship I made is for inner sol system, so speed was not exactly a concern. )

They no longer use your designs. They build and obsolete their own designs.

Well darn.  I was hoping to have at least SOME control over what ships they were using.

Why? I think it is a very good improvement. It feels like the universe is more "alive", and also makes you free to design unconventional commercial ships.
