Disassembling components for tech points
« on: November 11, 2013, 03:34:01 AM »
Hey,

I successfully disassembled a component, gaining 1600 RP in internal confinement fusion drive, which is a tech I can't research as of yet. Checking the full list of possible projects in PP, I still see that the cost to research this tech is 40.000.

So I'm wondering if this is a bug or something I don't get? Should it not be 38.400 ?

Did you disassembled it on the planet with your research labs?

There is also another tech with a very similar name. Internal and Inertial confinement are different techs.

Disassembled on Earth yes, a lot of labs. Got the messages about gaining the research points. I confirm it is Internal Confinement fusion drive and there is no change.

If you disassemble an advanced engine you can´t currently research, you gain RP for the engine tech you _can_ research, for Magneto Plasma, for example, if you have Ion Drives.
This goes for all the techs, i.e. Laser size/type, Sensors, whatever.

What happens if the cost to research the next level is less than the value of the recovered RP bonus?

So using the 1600 RP from above...

I have 1000 RP to go to get the next level in whatever it is or the next level only costs 1000 RP...the remaining 600 do what?

I´m not sure what happens to the remaining 600 RP, but on a general note it is more efficient to complete the research the conventinal way and _then_ dissasemble the advanced part because you get a percentage amount of RP based on the total research cost of the technology. Thus, if you would get 1600 RP while researching magneto-plasma, you would probably get some 3000 RP when you can research internal fusion.
