Nice! I had a list of Napoleon's marshals, but these will work much better.  The capitalized battle names are a little weird though.

Here's a few lists of m own. They're pretty short, unfortunately.

Vaguely greek/roman/byzantine themed names intended to evoke hierarchal structures.

I tend to use a more classical nomenclature, in which a ship-name indicates the general class of ship to which it belongs.

Examples:

Attitude-class Light Cruisers : Hostile, Aggressive, Arrogant, Paranoid, Totally Pissed Off

Quality-class Jump Cruisers : Indominable, Invincible, Courageous, Dauntless

Storm-class Frigates : Khamsin, Typhoon, Hurricane, Sirocco, Partly Cloudy With A 30% Chance Of Rain

Battle-class Heavy Cruisers : Agincourt, Medway, Poitier, Normandy, Yorktown, Cannae

Mountain-class Light Carriers : Krakatoa, Thera, Tambora, Vesuvius, Stromboli

Constellation-class Fleet Carriers : Andromeda, Bootes, Cassiopeia, Draco, Eridanus, Fornax

Hero-class Battlecruisers : Agamemnon, Achilles, Hector, Audie Murphy

With this system, I can always tell immediately what sort of ship is reporting... eg: a report about Agamemnon must refer to a Battlecruiser, a report regarding Typhoon refers to a Frigate, and so on.

Watch out for the apostrophes in the names. Access does not deal well with them.

Hmm, have to admit i never imported that last list.

Thinks you for your lists DeadlyShoe, the list about greek/roman/byzantine is very cool !
And i confirme that apostrophes cause some bug when you export names  in the game.

I use a system similar to blue emu's, but I prefer to not state what the names are going to be, so instead of the Battle class cruiser Agincourt I have the Agincourt class cruisers Agincourt, Medway, Poitier, Normandy, Yorktown, Cannae.

Nice! I had a list of Napoleon's marshals, but these will work much better.  The capitalized battle names are a little weird though.

Here's a few lists of m own. They're pretty short, unfortunately.

Added everything except irreverant :)

Ancient Hierarchical Names
Asian Mountain Ranges
Coast Salish Place Names and Words
Gemstones

In English ships are almost always female, even if they are named after a man. I really like these name lists, and maybe "Calf and Cow" sounds more impressive in the original language  :) .

If you run out of names in a naming list, what happens then?

You choose one of the other 331 :)

In the meantime, the theme will return ClassName XXX as the name, with the XXX being the number of the class constructed.

Thank's Steve !

Naming ships is one of my favorite things in this game ! I love when one particular ship attract your attention for one or another reason and then you kinda follow her life in your Empire. Like when the troop transport ship  "St Helens" was the only ship to survived a system invasion by alien and came back almost 10 years latter wither troops in her load to reconquered the main planet and then became a symbol.

Added.

I've created a upload option within C# Aurora so you can now press a button, type the theme name and then select a text file using a dialog box. You need a text file with one name per line.

Or post the text file in this thread and I will add it.

I also would like to put forward an idea iI had. I would like to create a participating list for 40k inspired ships name with some restriction :
1) No canon ships names
2) No mention of battles/planets/primarch from 40k history(so the list can be used in all game without be too awkward)
3) Throne, Terra and Emperor names can be used
4 ) Have fun !

Do you think it's a good idea ? Does it deserve it's own topic ? Just asking :)
