System Summaries for AARs
« on: June 15, 2010, 09:06:19 AM »
I am playing my own campaign at the moment and just carried out the first transit. The system is quite an interesting one and I was about to start writing a description when it occured to me it would be good to have some way of pasting some type of system summary information into an AAR. I have added a button to the F9 view that copies a system summary to the windows clipboard, so you can paste it directly into an AAR or file. Below are two examples of what I have so far. I would welcome suggestions on improving the format. Individual moons are only shown at the moment if they have a colony cost, otherwise there is just a total number. I can add more detail to planets as well but I would like to find a balance between summary and information overload. Also, suggestions for a format that doesn't require code blocks would be welcome.

Good new addition. Someone's been awfully lucky with Alpha Centauri!!

I would say so, if they are reachable in a timely fashion.

Maybe have the distance between the components listed?

Added distance and which star is being orbited to any non-primary components. e.g.

Alpha Centauri-B  K1-V  Diameter: 1.25m  Mass: 0.79  Luminosity: 0.39.   Orbits Alpha Centauri-A  at 23.0 AU.

Yes, no ideal planets but a great deal of potential.

 2) Unexplored:    Distance: 459m   Bearing: 249
 3) Unexplored:    Distance: 2.02b   Bearing: 65
 4) Unexplored:    Distance: 4.5b   Bearing: 49
 5) Unexplored:    Distance: 5.6b   Bearing: 330
 6) Unexplored:    Distance: 5.9b   Bearing: 323

Relating to the distance between stars, maybe noting if gas giants are present along with the distance between stars or with the planet discription.  This way it lets people know that a lp is available or not.  I can not tell if any of the planets listed are gas giants.

I am hoping that his is working toward not having instantanious communications. Meaning a player does not find out about something till he gets news of it

It might be complicated, but maybe a system that lists moons if their resources are above 50k with higher than .5 availability and minimum two other res at atleast 10k?

Second on an optional way of adding moons. But overall very nice.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for this feature.  It promises to be very helpful to the blind, as I
admit the F9 table can sometimes be a bit daunting.
I particularly appreciate the distance information, which along with the new
coordinates on the map should make the whole problem of relative positions
easier to deal with.
Hoping for 5.2 soon as well.
Best,
Zack.
