Title: Troop transport
Post by: zakmuk2 on December 15, 2010, 05:49:38 AM
Hello,

I am new to aurora and i like the game but I have a problem with troop transport (i am using aurora 5. 2. 0).

I started a new game just to test troop transport and I chose a few techs thanks to SM Mode to be able to designe the following ships :

Agincourt class Cruiser    79,350 tons     573 Crew     1684. 5 BP      TCS 1587  TH 200  EM 0
126 km/s     Armour 1-164     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 1     PPV 0
Annual Failure Rate: 50371%    IFR: 699. 6%    Maint Capacity 13 MSP    Max Repair 40 MSP    Est Time: 0 Years
Troop Capacity: 30 Battalions    Cargo Handling Multiplier 50

Nuclear Pulse Engine E10 (5)    Power 40    Fuel Use 100%    Signature 40    Armour 0    Exp 5%
Fuel Capacity 50,000 Litres    Range 1. 1 billion km   (104 days at full power)

This design is classed as a Military Vessel for maintenance purposes

Agincourt - Copy class Cruiser    90,750 tons     698 Crew     1850 BP      TCS 1815  TH 1000  EM 0
550 km/s     Armour 1-179     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 1     PPV 0
Maint Capacity 13 MSP    Max Repair 40 MSP
Troop Capacity: 30 Battalions    Cargo Handling Multiplier 50

Nuclear Pulse Engine E1 (10)    Power 100    Fuel Use 10%    Signature 100    Armour 0    Exp 1%
Fuel Capacity 50,000 Litres    Range 9. 9 billion km   (208 days at full power)

This design is classed as a Commercial Vessel for maintenance purposes

I have the order Load Ground Unit into Transport Bay // Select Ground Unit but when i double click on a unit (i have tried all the unit in a standard start), nothing happens.

Where is my mistake ?

You have to select the unit then go back over to the left and click the button that confirms the order ("assign", I think, don't have the game on this computer to check). All troop load/unload/drop orders work this way. Not sure why they are different.

I'll add a question of my own: is there a way to select/load multiple units at once for a large ship or fleet? I have discovered a large invasion has a frustrating amount of troop-related clicking.

Yes, IF you have organized your ground troops as it is intended, i.e. four batallions are assigned to a brigade HQ, 4 brigade HQs are assigned to a division HQ. Then you check the "Load Sub-units" or something to that effect checkbox and only order to load, for example, 21st Heavy Assault Division HQ to load the entire division (provided you have enough space)

I'd also advise you to use smaller and faster ships, 1000 kps is really the absolute bare minimum for anything, and you want a range of at least 15 billion km. If you don't have enough room that way you can just use more ships.
