Ive started seeing Stable wormholes popping up in various systems around me and im a little confused as to what they are and what they do, Ive checked the wiki and there isnt anything on them (at least nothing i can find through the search functions)

Can someone enlighten me as to their purpose and who may be creating them?

I had to go back and watch this -

"The Reno 911 of star gate" a comment suggested. That's not a bad idea actually, Mage some Farscape thrown in, I'm sure ben browder and Claudia black would love to do a terrible low budget series lampooning their most popular tv personae.  Maybe a web series.
Anyway back to the topic, you should avoid those systems and fortify your ohm system heavily
