22nd August 2129 Battle for 41 Arae outpost

Fade In peeps,

Whether our government has intentionally deceived us, or they did not know themselves, will be investigated further but I will try and relate the truth of what we now know.

Battle for 41 Arae Outpost

Earth Fleet 2 arrived the invasion staging point on the 22nd of August, to deal with the 41 Arae threat, it  included acomplement of  the new Tallboy missiles, which we now know is a Multi Warhead Missile system, designed to saturate the enemies missile defenses, with decoy and real missiles. This idea had been formed by a BrightStar think-tank headed by Cameron Saffer, based on the numerous contact we have had.

Two Alien vessels, or missile platforms, remained in orbit over their colony. On previous encounters, these ships have been know to have an impressive array of missiles. Earth Fleet 2 consisted of EUFS Afghanistan (DDG), EUFS Abyssinia (DDG), EUFS Albania (DDG), EUFS Pius Antorius (DD), EUFS Glasgow (FFG), EUFS Falkland (FFG), EUFS Amarda (CVL).

The Tallboy missiles launched first and were a complete failure, the missile separate very early in its launch and ran out of fuel before reaching it destination. A complete redesign of the missiles electronic system was needed and a fair few software engineers lost their job out of that debacle.

Nevertheless, Earth Fleet 2 continued on it course using the older GSlam 2 missiles, not a single missile was intercepted or fired back in response from the enemy, even if the bases used the missile stocks from its last fight, it had been almost three years since the last assault on these facilities, senior officers were confused but pressed on.

The two enemy vessels were rocked with explosion after explosion before both critically fell apart. It was at this point the veil of the enemy has been revealed.

The enemy we have fear for all this time, is dead. Not dead by our superior technology, dead for a millennium maybe more.

Once Earth Fleet 2, hovered over the Arae planet, they looked down  on a dead world with a ruined outpost. The ships we have been fighting are nothing more then AI construct left over to defend these dead planets.

The revenge we been looking for, to avenge our lives lost have vanished. A hollow pit has remained in everyone stomach, as we now found that space is booby trapped. To explore and expand we will have to face these booby traps and defuse them one by one.

Fade In Peeps

The war machine, is hammering it units day and night, to turn over new ships at the yards. The general population, who now knows that we are up against defensive relics of the past, are not convinced, that we are technologically advanced enough to tackles these obstacles with a safe measure without losing life.

The public now view the enemy craft very differently, they are no more then land mines that needs specialist removal teams, patience and carefully measure responses can remove. However the BrightStar retoric in the news has increase, 'removing this blight on our frontiers of space, so that the safety of our convoys and supplies are protect'.

In truth, BrightStar see opportunities from the exploitation of the ruined facilities and perhaps great leaps in technology and wealth. BrightStar needs to feed the fear and the war machine, so they can have the resources to exploit these hidden 'gems', as I heard one BrightStar employee can the alien facilities.

Except these gems to cost lives, EUF lives, what will be the price of blood spilt for these gems are they worth the loss of the EUFS Paul Bunyon and half of it crew?

Quote
ATTN: EARTH FLEET COMMAND

FROM: COMMANDER EARTH FLEET 1, Rear Admiral (lower half) Simon Gambel

SUBJECT: ENGAGEMENT IN THE LACAILLE 8760 SYSTEM
DATE: 19. Sept 2131

Earth Fleet 1, with a full compliment of ships entered Lac8760 system.

 Ships included
 - EUFS Agincourt (CVL)
 - EUFS Aisne (CVL)
 - EUFS Ecuador (DDG)
 - EUFS Patrick Ferguson (DD)
 - EUFS Paul Bunyon (DD) (flag)
 - EUFS Perth (FFG)
 - EUFS Dundee (FFG)
 - EUFS Alexandria (FFG)

Hostile contact established at 11.09.32, Talwar Class, The fleet closed on the enemy vessel at maximum speed, the enemy vessel also closed to engage. A salvo of GSLAM Mk2 missiles launched at 13.52.53, started to impact on the Talwar class ship, the vessel seemed to have no point defence or anti missile system to counter and was soon pocketed with explosions, 14.23.02 it was destroyed.

The fleet then continued towards the centre of the system, establishing 3 further contacts, Tabar class, Agray class, Tabar class ships. These ships appeared on our systems at 18. Sept at 21.48.17, we then start to close with these contacts at 05.48.47 the next morning two further contact appeared on our radar screens, these were off our right bow on a closing vector to us, Rana and Shardul Class vessels.

I dispatched the two DD which include the Flag, to intercept these vessel as there thermal rating was a lot smaller at 800 Strength. At 12.14.17 the Paul Bunyon and Patrick Ferguson started to receive missile contacts, they could not fire at the enemy as they had laser weapons and only point defence and anti missile systems. The two ships were able to protect itself from waves of 6 missiles, ever 5 seconds. 54 missiles were destroyed without even a marking of the ship shields.

The main fleet was also under attack with similar 6 wave missiles, the fleet capability against these missile proved more then adequate.

At 12.59.05 we were able to loose our GSLAM Mk2 missiles.

13.28.50 A wing of F-1 Hornets were attacked by the enemy from Godheim Anti-Missile Missiles, these did not destroy the wing, but stripped it of the various craft of its armour, including 258 casualties amongst the flight.

14.00.35 another wave of missile fired at the Paul Bunyon, with only 1 missile penetrating the point defence, at this stage the Paul Bunyon was out of all AMMs.

14.24.35 The Paul Bunyon and Patrick Ferguson were close enough to fire at the enemy, the  Tabar and Magar class ships were rocked with continuous laser fire,, the unspeakable then happened as both ships increased speed and tried to ram the Paul Bunyon, I called for evasive manoeuvres and the crew did it best to avoid the vessels., while at the same time we were cutting it apart with laser fire.

At 14.24.45, we were rammed by the Tabar, which resulted in both ships destruction, resulted in the loss of 861 deaths, while the remainder made it to the lifepods including myself and most of the bridge, which was not hit during the collision. The Patrick Ferguson destroyed the Magar and picked up the surviving pods.

At 14.53.35 our missiles began impacting on the Rana and Shardul, overwhelming it point defence systems, this finally showed the impact of the Tallboy systems, there were a number of GSLAM Mk2 mixed amoungst the missiles which also found it mark leaving gaping holes in the enemy vessels armour.

By 14.57.05 Rana and Shardul were no more, by 15.28.10, the Agray was also destroyed and the engagement had ceased. The Flag was transfer to the Patrick Ferguson, and the fleet regrouped.

We had lost in the engagement the use of two fighter wings, although not destroyed they are useless, and the DD Paul Bunyon.

After regrouping we will take stock of our supplies and decide whether to press further. Waiting further instructions.

The loss of all these men and women for what some intelligent land mines and Bright Star greed, let hope in future engagement we are better prepared against the Kamikaze attack.

Till we Fade.

20th August 2132 Captain Hollis Geisler has been promoted to Rear Admiral (Lower Half)

Fade in Peeps

It seems Rear Admiral Simon Gambrel did not even survive a year after the Battle for Lacaille 8760, the enquiries into the engagement and the subsequent release of the report was damning of the Rear Admiral tactics including the splitting of the fleet to engage the enemy at close range with lasers.

The choice of his flag ship was also in question considering the brand new Ecuador Belgium class DDG was available. This let to eventually his forced retirement into obscurity. Perhaps if the enemy had been a intelligent lifeforms, the destruction of 6 warships to the loss of one would of brought him all types of accolades, but now the Arae enemy is no more then an AI shell it will only ruin many a career, until it is released this AI shell is just as dangerous and sneaky as a intelligent life form.

BrightStar has managed to send a team to the Arae ruined outpost, and now investigating the ruins. Let hope they find the cure for TVD, the AIDS of the 22nd century amongst the shifting sands.

Till we Fade.

Adepts Blog:

The various sectors have been quite, shipbuilding has ground to another semi halt, with the destruction and elimination of the Arae's there seems to be no need to the endless building of the military machine.

New Years Day on an asteroid in the depths of Sol, is not how I first imagined it to be. The various ORK members go through there daily regime with little reference as what today it is or signifies. Night and Day in this complex is no more then a flick on or off the matrix of LED lights in our quarters.

The various ORK personnel go about there duties with a tireless, almost religious like fanatism and are total factitious over the analysis of data going in and out. I imagined 20th century news rooms to be loud and vocal, with people screaming for deadlines and wins on important investigations. Here the quiet inside replicates the quiet of space around us.

If you hear a raised voice or a cheer in celebration there is quite disbelieve amongst the other members. It funny we devoid our lives to communication but we are not even communicating or celebrating between ourselves.

Perhaps I am wavering in my devotion, perhaps it time I seek healing from my spiritual supervisor.
