How do I share system geological survey data with another race?

On the menu bar, go to Empires -> Systems -> Transfer System Knowledge

You can also open this window by highlighting several systems on the galactic map using click-drag with the mouse or ctrl-click then right-clicking to access the popup menu and selecting Transfer System Info. This will open the window with all the selected systems highlighted. You then choose whether you want to pass on jump data, geosurvey data or both. You can also use this window to pass on the knowledge that a system exists at all.

Sorry for the necro but I've desperately been trying to do this for the last hour and it doesn't seem to work. I've made sure I'm in SM mode, I've ensured that the race handing out survey information is the default race but still the recipient gets nothing.

I've also tried to use the F9 screen to toggle the planetary body to be surveyed for that same, recipient race, with no success.
