Those Who Must Endure Chapter 9 - We Endure
« on: October 05, 2016, 10:37:32 AM »
MM:

The map of the scouted universe as of 1st of December 2042. The BETA have not returned to Luhman 16, confirming our suspicion that it was simply an advanced scouting formation. Perhaps escorting some sort of Hive builder. Needless to say, it was fortunate we found them there, and stopped them in time. Most fortunate indeed. A Task Force is already being formed to penetrate deep into the BETA sector and find their homeworld, so that they may be eliminated, and expand the ground we can take.

Hoshi no Hashi-- the system formerly known as Barnard's Star. It means Bridge of Stars. Though the Royal Guard has lovingly called it either Hikarihashi-- light bridge-- some of them even call it the little bridge, because of the red dwarf. Nevertheless, the gas giant-- and the only-- planet of the system has a strong reserve of Sorium, and could indeed be a refueling point for many of our task forces in operation. We already knew that our fuel situation was severe, and it was not helped by the fact that we always traded fuel for higher performance engines. It was a given, considering the fact that the laser class BETA is not called laser for no reason. Speed was of the utmost importance. One cannot outrun a laser, but if you can cross the horizon quickly enough, and perform your mission, your chances of survival were higher; Of course, fighting the BETA on foot and in space are two completely different things, and speed is even more important in the vacuum of space. All that aside, my point is, none of us ever considered we'd have a future. Our victory over the BETA came swiftly and unexpectedly-- a chance discovery at the last possible moment. And here we are.

But we did not learn our lessons, not at all. Instead of making engines more fuel efficient, we made them even more powerful. After all, we are Eishi. Bringers of peace, by steel's decisive judgement. For what use is a swift sword, when carried in a slow hand?

By year 2044 we shall have new ships, of the finest class and purpose, supported by vessels carrying fuel-- and by 2044 we shall have the infrastructure to support them in their voyage to the distant stars, to bring the flames of retribution upon those who scorned us.

The Ise class frigate in use now is an 8000 ton ship, specifications as follows:

The type 145b, also used on the Akagi-kyu Carrier, is a piece of equipment of bygone days. To remain in positive standing with our ideal of speed, we traded it's accuracy for less weight, while maintaining a long operational range. The Ise was always supposed to be an escort ship of the Zuikaku destroyers, but such is only effective against those who do not field missiles, and require us to invest them in point defense.

For this reason, we created the Type 199 CIWS, full weight, in all it's glory, and attached two of them to the hull of the Ise, and replaced it's engines, with a more powerful variant.

The Ise Hoshi:

It would take but a year to refit the current Ise to the new specification. And two of these will undergo a Royal Guard upgrade, and given to the most prominent of our officers.

The Ise Kagero:

Able to engage four separate salvos with a total of 64 guns seems to be the greatest overkill of them all, but an absolute necessity at this most dangerous time, for any force that seeks to probe the stars in pursuit of our Nemesis.

And lastly, even our Zuikaku destroyers will receive an upgrade, and although the same hull is used, the Zuikaku is completely incompatible with the new Kirishima class destroyer:

And finally, escorted by the new Shiranui Third and Majingari (Demonhunter) TSFs, the Imperial Japanese Navy shall be the one to receive most of these blessings-- this steel-- to tear apart the BETA in our quest for salvation.

SPECIAL NOTES:

A variation of the Shiranui Third, equipped with the new Type 1 High Power Microwave Interference Cannon and with a focus on stealth by not carrying active sensors of any kind on board, relying only on external data fed through the Targetting Data Link.

Of other interest in the galaxy is the Procyon system ruins we found, on the planet we named Inorishi (prayer), some of the material retrieved from the planet, near the ruins, was 'resonating with life', as the geosurvey operators reported. They assure me that it resembled the primordial soup our own species came from, even though this one was within the rocks. The planet itself is a carbon-dioxide and nitrogen mix, but in the habitable zone of the Procyon Star.

The other interesting planet is the Hoshikaze, named so for the unusual stellar wind that bombards the planets-- an interesting place, research wise, for testing out armor alloys, and perfecting the protection of our ships.

Though this universe seems intent on erasing us from existence, we still endure. And for a long time still, we shall continue. By the wisdom of the blade. By the justice of the flame.

Just finished reading up this one. Very interesting premise you've got here, will keep an eye out for further updates!
