Welcome back. :)

So news. Good news is I am back from Seattle and am going to be working a bit on the game today and possibly Thursday so there might be an update this weekend and I have ordered the giant mat. Bad news is the mat won't be here for up to a week and therefore I can't really do any battles.

Luckily I live a four hour drive from Seattle so I go to ECCC and PAX Prime and apparently this year I am also going to the PAX Dev Con the three days preceding PAX. One of the best things about ECCC though is its the weekend before my birthday so its a great early birthday present.

Pre-happy birthday!

And the next con I'm planning on is in Oct. :(

Just to let everyone know I am taking a short hiatus from this. Emerald City ComiCon, my birthday, and my mom's birthday are all coming in the next three weeks so I have a lot to do, and I am hoping to get a giant battle map from Chessex at ECCC.

A battle has happened now. Alpha Centauri B has a wormhole 48 light minutes from it and I decided to start mapping out where exactly this wormhole led to and one of the systems I ended up with a highly xenophobic highly exploratory race. I figured that would led to exactly what happened. There were several ways this battle could have gone but it turns out I accidently gave the smegty die to the aliens. Their initiative range was from 1-10 while the Terran Confederation's range was 2-11 and for those who don't know low initiative is good. First turn the initiative rolls looked like this, alien 9, Hercules 2, Achilles 2, Ajax 7. Second turn (the last turn it turns out) was 4, 5, 3, 3. The alien drifted into sensor range on turn two and then the Achilles and Ajax were able to turn enough to fire broadsides at it.

Of course another reason for the (more likely imho) more peacfull story so far is you don't have the bloodthirsty Aurora NPR's   ;D  look at Steves current game for example

Matt
They are out there, I promise, they just haven't interacted with the Confederation yet.

I just wanted to drop in and explain somethings that are happening so everyone is on the same page.

Firstly this thread has been moved because I figured its easier to move between threads than sub-forums. So that is the explanation of that.

The other thing is the lack of combat in my game. Reading through the various AARs on this forum, or just AARs period, I was reminded that most have at least one battle by the point I am at. And here is the reason why the TCN has never fired a shot with violent intent.

Firstly the Terran Confederation knows of three other powers for sure. The Veruiak, the New Russian Commonwealth, and the Ursae Republic. The Veruiak have a tech level similar to Europe in the 1500s, the TCN could destroy them from orbit without a worry or the TCA (Terran Confederation Army) could deploy its one division and most likely win with small losses flintlocks and pikes can't really stand up to lasers and tactical missiles. The New Russian Commonwealth and the Terran Confederation have an agreeable treaty and are moving toward alliance. The Ursae Republic wants nothing to do with anyone and that is just fine for the Confederation for now. Beyond that there is the race that destroyed one of the generation ships but where they are and if they still exist is unknown and the only thing that is known is 80 years ago they had a tech similar to what the Confederation has now. Beyond that with current FTL technology and FTL mapping it takes over 2 years to get to the home systems of any of these powers, in fact the New Russian ship is still a few months out from reaching home.

Another reason is right now the TCN is tiny, there are five combat ships on the Sol system, four of which can never leave, and three ships in Alpha Centauri. The fleet is in a massive expansion, four ships are being built right now and the queue is several years of constant work but the Expeditionary Fleet mentioned in the last update is still 3-6 years away from being ready.

This may change sooner than planned when the Enterprise, Consortium, and Endeavor reach the systems they are currently heading toward but they are still almost two years from reaching any of these points (the first mapping of a FTL route takes 10x the normal distance and every light year takes 10 days to travel).

Even though I've never played the game, it's a very interesting story, and is well written.

Thank you Jacen, that is the best compliment an author can get. I very much recommend this game which Erik should be able to hook you up. I am not going to lie, starting it takes a lot of time but as you learn the game it gets easier and faster.

Quick question. In my first two posts I gave excerpts from books that are written in the future on the story to give a historical perspective. I haven't done that in the last couple updates. Would you guys like me to bring those back?

I'll make a new install tonight and upload it.
