Since to my knowledge precursor ships are fully automated with no crew, I always thought it was odd that they're able to be boarded and captured.

I think of the robot ships in Star Wars.

Due to the soon to be new class of engines and the crisis of not having fuel.&nbsp;  (A new battleship was launched and it lacked both fuel, and missiles to put in it!)&nbsp;  Whitehall and the beancounters decided that a extensive fleet review was needed.&nbsp; Even with the victory over the Tau Menace (Spoilers), it will not save the navy, and in fact may result in cutbacks since the threat to Sol is less now with that victory.&nbsp;  This will also be a bit of a word dump, but people rarely put logistical or other craft here, so I felt might as well show the entire fleet off.<br /><br /><br />The Fleet is in 5 divisions <br /><br />1.&nbsp; Scout Service (which includes Jump Tenders)<br />2.&nbsp; Void Fleet - the stuff that directly related to military matters<br />3.&nbsp; Marines - Dealing with Army units, both transfers to colonies and space-born military.<br />4.&nbsp; Logistics - Cargo, Colony ships, and tankers<br />5.&nbsp; Militia - units intended for system defense, and not to strike the enemy.<br /><br /><br />Scout Service<br /><br />Alexis Bledel Jump Tender <br /><br />

This has been a odd game start.

1.  Sol has six jump points.
2.  Protomax centauri had plenty of bodies, but not one bit of minerals
3.  Sol itself is kinda light on materials, and had a major  fuel shortage due to limits of raw materials.
4.  One jump out is a bad guy.  Most likely Precursors
5.  Then the RNG gives me this.

Fuel is not a problem in the near future.  But now I have to figure out is it cheaper to process it there as fuel and haul it as fuel to earth, or haul the material to earth and process it there.

are you playing with inexperienced crews?  if so, the nice thing about fighters is you can put them on a training character, as shooting early is very key for Jump Point defense.  One of the reasons why I love defensive mining.

My problem with placeholder hulls to get an advantage in the current system is that taking it to the logical conclusion eliminates retooling entirely.
Retool to the most expensive thing you can build, usually fitting only (hardened?) sensors/fire controls, and you should be able to use it for any practical design forever.

But in game that concept breaks rather quickly in practice as you will end up needing something else.

This will be a new AAR series, this is background fluff. The computer with Aurora is being used for other tasks so I am writing something instead.



Okay class, you may remember last week we went over WWIII. The key things to remember is that in 2028 a full scale war broke out. 8 billion died, and the old nation states outside of a handful of small nations ceased to exist. Prior to the war, government was generally done by democratic government. However after WWIII, two large governments formed, the United Nations of Socialists States, and the Empire of the Sun, or Imperium Solis. Yesterday we went over the UNSS, or sometimes just known as the UN. A leftover from the pre-war days, they follow a communal system of economic growth and are lead by a premier, who is guided by the Politburo, which is a executive council. Promotion is by seniority. It is a form of Stalinist Communism, and leaders are purged if they are found to be disloyal.

Today we are going to go over our own history, can anyone tell me how our nation was founded? Yes Lisbeth?

"That is correct, but do recall that any of you, with good exam grades and a good references can enter the military academy, and once there, you are equal to all."

I am running out of time, but do recall that Parliament does set the budget for the empire, and reviews all appointments to government made by the emperor.

The bell rang and the kids rushed off to their next class. She remembered her service, working in a military unit that helped supplies get to isolated settlements and bring them into the fold of the empire, and defeating the communists rebels. She smiled at the photo of the emperor that hung from the wall, and she knew which student she would be recommending for the academy, not Chai Son, the son of the wealthy wool merchant, nor Samuel, who was a little too easygoing for military service. Lisbeth however had all the markings for service, more exactly the Navy. Sure her parents were poor farmers, and her father mind was enfeebled by some illness from his youth, but Lisbeth not only had the mind, she knew how to use it. She needed to talk to the Navy recruiter and get her in the Academy.

I somewhat understand that issue, so I make it explicit and give the first design name like "32kT Basic Hull" and make them utterly impractical as useable ships.

My RP thinking is that the it's not designing a ship, it's designing a basic hull/frame and tooling the shipyard for that. That's why I'm not opposed to the idea of designing hulls, I just think we already have a perfectly good mechanism for doing that already.

I agree on this.  Also I like the idea that sometimes a hull design or concept has reached it max and it time to rotate them with new ideas.   

(And now I will be tempted to name one of the templates a "F-body" just for giggles.)

Plz advice me to my first combat ship at aurora.
I aimed to 6000t class general purpose small combat ship,but it expanded to 8000t.

It looks a lot like some of my early ships.
the first question you have to ask is "What is the role(s) this ship has?

Generally a ship can be good at 1 thing and can be a fallback to another. 

What I would do....

- decide if this is a anti-ship, or anti-missile ship.   (One of the neat tricks is if you design them right, you can make a anti-ship and a anti-missile sister ships and built them in the same shipyard without retooling.
-drop the shield
- match the fire control and the turret speed for the laser.  or at least make them more close.  I rather have one faster tracking laser then two slower, but that me.
-do you REALLY need it to be used as a jump vessel, it is fine if that is the case.  If not, drop that. 
-I actually don't mind the speed and really long range, but there no reason to use the thermal reduction on this ship, and the cost will be much less.  I generally aim for 20 billion as any longer I will use tankers.   But that me.


What I would recommend.

- re-engine to at least remove the thermal reduction, it is expensive and you do not need it.
- remove the shield, box launchers, and long range sensor.   
- make it 1 turret, with faster speed to match what you can track
- Think about a CIWS since this may be a patrol craft working on it own. 

then make a 2nd version that has the box launchers and long range sensors.  And if you play around with it, you may be able to built them on the same shipyard.

Yes it s not as simple as anyone makes it out to be.    Government spending (In the EU at least) has been shown to cause economic increases in the quarter it is spent, then a small negative growth factor over the next two years.   This is due to public sector spending being not very efficient, for various factors (including citizens do not want their government to be tight with money when they are spending it on services they use!).   In addition, the TYPE of taxes has a lot of impact on economic growth (Kneller, Bleaney and Gemmell are the main researchers in this area) with for example, property taxes having much less of a economic impact then income taxes.

But the other thing to recall is that the impact of taxes is normally overstated by EVERYONE.   For example, interest rates and maintaining 1-2% inflation is a much bigger driver for long term growth  (and tax revenue) then the actual tax rates.  Economies get killed when inflation gets too high, or deflation, or if you have high interest rates.  (of course, too low interest rates results in inflation.) 

Also, most of the time tax reform also changes the underlying nature of the base, for example, Both JFK and Reagan cut US tax rates and saw huge economic growth, but much of that is attributed by eliminating tons of tax loopholes and thus made the economy less distorted.

But I really do not want Aurora to become a economy simulator....
