Search Function fails
« on: January 26, 2010, 12:24:25 AM »
I can kind of see why it would ignore words like "aurora", "space" or "and". But the search function ignores all of these:
    Attack
    Combat
    Empire
    Engine
    Fast
Fighter (but not Craft or Gunboat)
    Ground
    Missile
    NPR
    Sensor
and more (such as, for example, multiples of the words, where they are applicable)!
That makes the search function unusable for half of the most common questions.

Alas, neither Steve nor Erik programmed the search function and as such we are pretty much stuck with what's available for PHP.  I recommend using Google and restricting the search to "Search within a site or domain:" aurora.pentarch.org

Very true. Through maintaining this site and adding mods, I've learned a bit about PHP, but I am a windows client/server database programmer by trade. There are some tweaks I can make to the configuration to the search functions, and I've made a couple. Please let me know if it improves or not.
