swarm reproduction mechanics question
« on: June 20, 2013, 04:17:37 PM »
Okay.  we know that the star swarm can reproduce by eating the wrecks of ships you and other factions lose, thus generating more soldiers.  What's the exchange ratio from ship to fresh soldier, and can they make anything other than more soldiers?

Basic setup;  I had conducted what was unfortunately proven to be a incomplete sweep of a system bordering one of my colonial outposts, and decided, with the colony there, to establish a listening post to provide advance warning in the event that an NPR came knocking.  2 80 kton freighters loaded with DSTS set course for one of the inner system planets to establish the post, and my first warning was entirely too many soldier contacts in close range before the freighters were blasted into space kibble seconds later.  Not much later, the wrecks disappeared.  So my question is this.  Are those two freighters going to be converted into soldiers at a 1 for 1 ratio, meaning I just added around 200 murderbugs to the infestation in that system, or are the hulls big enough that the game will decide the swarm needs a couple new queens?  If not either, what?
