:o Thank you for bringing this to my attention... I have no clue how this went over my head but I now know what I must buy as soon as it goes on sale.
Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

It's on Steam now and really amazing. N-Body physics, super realistic ships, components and combat.
Fun Fact: The minimum engine power of any ship engine in Aurora C# is 0.01. The maximum is 120000!

Just got through it and the game is absolutely amazing, although it has some problems like some boring and teeth-grittingly hard missions like the one where you should transfer a VIP to Mars from some rock past the Mars orbit or combat entry distances for missiles, or maybe, for some, lack of some of the real physics elements the game doesn't account for light-speed lag!
Also, Aurora 4x + CoaDE + SpaceEngine = best 4x ever IMO.

CoDE - fine TACTICAL space-battles simulation game - but no 4x Strategy. IMHO.

I mean Aurora-like core gameplay with scope down-scalable to CoaDE level.

There is an interesting 3D space combat sim called Concealed Intent, its not a very big game but its only £3.62 on Steam at the moment. Its worth a look at that price. Unfortunately its not a 4X.
