Hi guys , i plan to start a new game but... because of my low experience , i run out of ideas for my military designs so if you have time can you please share your original and powerful designs for this little one ? Every game is just the same for me with practically the same designs over and over again so i think i need something new from the experts of Aurora 4x

Here's a destroyer squadron that's served me pretty well this game. Good range, pretty deadly weapons. Only problem is they're kinda slow.
A squadron is 1 Blucher class destroyer leader and 3 Donitz class DD's.

This design is classed as a military vessel for maintenance purposes
Against beam opponents, you split the Donitz's off from the DL. The Donitz's close with the opponent and get right in their face to get the best DPS you can, while the DL stays as far away as it can and still have the target painted by its sensors.
Against missile opponents you close ranks and set everything to final defensive fire. The sheer volume of fire makes up for the low tracking speed on the railguns.
So far these have killed a few 9000-ton particle beam-armed enemies, and 4 1000-ton missile FAC's. The particle beams were kinda dangerous, they out-ranged me. But I was faster and just ran them down. Only lost ~10 guys on one of the Donitz's. The missile FAC's shouldn't have been dangerous, they only launched 9 missiles each. But I haven't actually had much combat experience and botched the first defense. Lost one of the Donitz's. Thankfully I was prepared for the 2nd volley, and suffered no damage from it. Then the FAC's tried for a ramming attack and got shot to pieces.

Good designs , well it's slow but good in early/midgame where speed is still below 7k km/s for normal military designs , and are you not scared of fast moving ships ? with just fighters , they can close in and give a good heavy shower of projectiles/beams even more scary if they have mesons. I don't think the Blutcher can take all of them before taking heavy damage but it depends on the weapons they use. and if the Donitz and the Blutcher split it is more dangerous because your Donitz will be completely vulnerable against fighters.

I think its more important to keep the Blucher at a safe distance so you don't lose your only search sensor.
Each Donitz puts out 32 shots every 10 seconds, meaning a single squadron can do 48 shots every tick. I think that even with poor tracking speed they could kill fighters pretty quickly. Especially since fighters have such anemic beam weapon range. My accuracy will be higher, and my damage improves. At close range, a single hit is enough to kill a fighter.
I think a bigger threat is missile fighters spamming small, very high speed missiles. Or worst of all, beam ships with better range and speed.

Made these for a new game.
I found the three civs to have interestingly different techs, that was nice (I always let the game spend the research points). Randomly decided only one had figured out engines small enough to fit on missiles. Think they should handle fine against each others if it comes down to it.

My problems with Barkhorn's design are:
* Annual Failure Rate is through the roof - do you use maintenance OFF?
* only one engine, you lose it, you are a sitting duck
* if those two classes are meant to be used mostly together why not to use those 1000t more on Donitz, bringing it to the same size and speed?
* range is also widely different, especially if Blutcher is sometimes meant to sit on one spot while Donitzes rushes forward
* unless you are low on fuel it may be worth to use stronger engines for faster ships, 14 % seems maybe too fuel-conservant - note Tree's ships are faster with 2 techs lower Ion drives
My problems with Barkhorn's design are:
* quite low maintenance life and high AFR
* MSP is less than double Max repair - if something big breaks you can't repair it yourself even if some other ship donates you supplies
* Kaifeng even has MSP less than Max repair - it can't itself even maintain its prices component

Oh damn, missed that one. Usually I go for more MSP than max repair, yes.
And otherwise, yeah, they spend a lot of time in overhaul when not training or fighting.

I do play with maintenance off. I think maintenance is more of a head-ache than its worth.
I wanted the low-power engines so I could have long ranges without bringing a tanker. I guess next game I'll put a jump drive on my tankers so I can bring them along.

So what's the formations of your TG ? I mean how many ships of that kind you use in like a squadron or small fleet , it is good to know the designs of the ships but without understanding how they complement each other it is a little bit hard to understand the designs if they are independant or dependant on other ships to be fully effective

New Paths of Trisabria game plays bit weird because I started with two SF scientist and even with lev3 academy got EW one only after like 20 years. So when 33 years after conventional start first ships of magneto-pulse navy are ready, their fire controls are bit ahead.

After using only lasers last game I am quite enjoying the differentiation now: BFC with not much speed but max range for lasers and speed but possibly even range malus to gauss point defence. Having both 4x speed and 4x range is sooo costly, otherwise. C# Aurora should bring cheaper BFCs beside other things.
I find Detros's designs a little bit more interresting because he use mostly energy weapons , (i use kinetic weapons as main weapons so i'm pretty much a noob in that area of weapon) wich i want to try with heavy ships long-ranged energy weapons with a lot of shields but my designs in that area is always a failure so i used until now kinetic weapons , now with Detros's designs as a base i'm going to try another game. Thanks. Missiles at first seemed too complicated to me and everyone was saying they are so OP against AI so I have hardly used them at all (in my total of two games :D ).
For the previous fleet of multiple early designs with only lasers you can see Sun Fleet (Near-Ultra Laser, Magneto-Plasma) (http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php?topic=9404.msg101370) thread. In the end I didn't build any Sunstorms and ended with two fleets of 10x Sunbeam, 5x Sunstone, 1x Sunshine, 1x Sunsteed. Combined they managed to get through multiple streams of AAM, each at 60 missiles / 5s while losing like 2 ships. Slower ASMs at only 15 / 5s didn't manage to scratch the paint job, then.

In my first and current game, my sole battle group consists of two missile cruisers armed with ASMs and AMMs, two area-defense cruisers designed almost exclusively for PD, and a frigate as my long-range sensor platform. I intended a 20,000t carrier as well, but I'm waiting until I achieve a next generation of weapons, defense, and sensor systems. The wiki and a couple of youtube vids made me scared to death of missile attacks, so I designed (I hope) accordingly. The only real threat I've faced came at me with a large fleet of railgun-armed fast-attackers against earlier designs organized to the same doctrine, but this battle group can handle them with its missiles in a running engagement.

Yes, much too thirsty.
Take the Jumper Stealth:
4x 0.8 power engines and 100HS fuel fits on the same tonnage, has the same speed, uses 18% as much fuel, and has several times the range.
4x1.2 power engines and 100HS fuel has slightly more range than the original, uses 49% as much fuel, and is 50% faster.
Overstressed engines compensated by excessive fuel load is the easiest way to ruin a design. Even if you want the design to refuel others, it's too much.
