My civilian ships suddenly turned hostile towards me - what should I do?
I've got a message that one of my populations has surrendured to me - what's going on?

You are probably bombarding one of your planets with mass driver packets.  This is A Bad Thing :-)  It happens when you aim a mass driver at a population which does not itself have a mass driver to catch them.
