Title: v6.40 Patch
Post by: Steve Walmsley on April 22, 2014, 01:12:06 PM
This patch should be reasonably stable (famous last words!) as I have been playing my test campaign for quite a while. However, there are always some issues with any new release so don't start any major campaigns for a week or two until any obvious problems are found and fixed.

Important! This is a database patch so if you upgrade you will lose your saved game. Don't upgrade if you want to keep playing the same campaign.

This patch can only be applied to version 4.2 or later. To apply the patch, unzip the patch file and copy the files as follow:

1) Stevefire.mdb and Aurora.exe into the installation directory, overwriting the existing files with the same names
2) a11.jpg, b20.jpg and M24.jpg into the Planetjpeg sub-directory (if you don't already have them)
3) flag0390.jpg and flag0391.jpg into the Flags sub-directory (if you don't already have them)

http://www.pentarch.org/steve/Aurora640.zip (http://www.pentarch.org/steve/Aurora640.zip) (12Mb)

Patch notes are at: http://aurora2.pentarch.org/index.php/topic,6532.0.html

This database in this patch contains my current single-player Aurora campaign as an example game. This is quite a large game so if you start a new campaign, its probably best to delete the example game.

NOTE: As of 19:30 GMT on April 23rd, this patch includes the v6.41 update

Yay!  Perfect timing, I just hit the Precursors ground unit bug, and was fretting over an hour clicking through errors vs restarting

Thank you for this patch Steve, you have done a great job.
I would like know if you are working on a 6.42, fixing others bugs (in which case you will release it as soon as possible) or not, coz I would start a long campaign.

Until I get some time to work on the bugs I don't know if the patch will be 6.42 or 6.50. If its the former, them you will be able to apply the patch without affecting your game. If I find the bugs are in the database rather than the code, then it will be a database patch. So far, there don't seem to be any game-breaking bugs and I have to spend a few days away next week with work, so I don't think there will be a patch in the next week or so.

Just a quick question from a former user, but is the "installer" updated so it does not want to change system files and is it possible to play on a system that use "," as "." in numbers?

Neither have changed.
However, there is a "Portable Launch Utility" around this forum that automatically fixes the latter (as well as changing it back to normal system settings when you're through with the game).  The installer won't screw anything up if you tell it to keep system files.

the game doesn't use save files per se it just has the database and a lot of changes require DB changes...   it'd be awkward. if you care a LOT, you could update your DB manually from version to version if you had the DB PW and sufficient skill.

I noticed that PDC has a 5-11 armor as default now and that both ships and PDCs have 250000 Lt of fuel as default (large fuel storage), instead of 50000. Is everything correct or is there some bug?

Working as intended. PDC gets free armor because it's buried in the ground, and it takes effort to shoot through ground. Ships and PDCs both default to large fuel storage if you have it researched.

One thing to be alert to, however.  IIRC there was a bug in copying PDC designs - it would add ANOTHER 5(?) layers to the already-existing 5 layers.  Let's say I make PDC design A - it would have 5(?) free layers.  If I copied it to B, B would have 10 free layers.  Copying B to C would give C 15 free layers.  This is wrong of course - all 3 designs should only have 5 layers.

I don't remember if this was every logged or fixed.  I also don't remember how to work around it if it's not fixed :)

Is the bug with the Conventional start missile bases fixed?

Only partially. The game no longer seems to crash with them, but the crew members will end up dying regardless.
So it's better to turn that option off and SM some missile bases in.

You might want to message Eric rather than post your address in the forum, spam bots like harvesting email addresses from popular forums. From here too :p .

I've hacked his post up a little to hopefully fool the spambots but still give Eric the email.
