--- The so called Fortune Class is a class of Frigates designed to be my fleet's in-system mule, taking care of tasks that wouldn't be economical for real warships to handle. It provides security, PPV and a tractor beam capable of moving twenty thousand tons worth of powerless ship along at just under 2,000 km/s. The armament isn't great, but synergizes well. A spartan sensor suite is biased towards passive surveillance, while a small boat bay allows the carriage of a scout to alleviate this shortcoming. The vessel's only active sensor is weighted towards ships of it's own weight class. Meager armor and a lack of redundant systems means that the Fortune Class relies a lot on luck to survive one on one encounters with real warships.

Really cool and colourful ship... I really like the special system patrol and support purpose of the ship.

The cargo shuttles are there for transferring Maintenance Supplies in support of other ships in a pinch I suppose which would go hand in hand with their tractor beam and overall support function... I like this design.

Yeah I really like this too. It has multiple possible uses, should the need arise.

I think I'm going to steal the general idea  8) . Although I plan for a 20% tech campaign as soon as 1.10 will be stable, so... this tech is going to be tooooooo advanced for quite a while  ;D

Nice little ship.  Every time I thought of a suggestion or improvement, I looked closer and found you'd already accounted for it.

My only question is what would the ship look like with 4 layers of armour?  For personal reasons I avoid ships with only 2 or 3 layers of armour.

It would be a bit heavier and a bit slower. My doctrine requires Frigates to be 6,250 Tons exactly, so three layers it was. It helps that three layers is kinda my minimum for something to be considered a Warship at all, but honestly, four layers wouldn't hurt it too badly.

I see the appeal of designing something like this, but considering the mechanics involved...replacing a Fortune with a commercial tug (with light supply ship bits if that's an intended role) would be cheaper and in many ways more effective. And then you could either make a frigate that doesn't fight so far below its tonnage or fit the same martial equipment on a smaller sloop. (Probably not an FAC unless you were willing to cut corners.)
