Title: StarLords3k
Post by: se5a on October 28, 2015, 01:48:39 PM
I'm having a bit of fun with this.
It's an single indie dev space empire 4x
The emphasis is more on politicking than just going all out war, in fact if you go all out war with everyone you'll find yourself behind economically. it's far better to trade and treaty your way through, while leaving battles for those times where politicking won't further your goals.

At first glance it has the appearance of one of those empire building clone facebook games that were all the rage a few years back (farmville?) but it's totally not. it's nowhere near that dumbed down.
On the other hand it's not quite as complex as Aurora either, and the tutorial is pretty good and for the most part explains stuff pretty well.

It has the appearance of being turn based while being realtime, economy is run on a 10hr tick and ships have a cooldown period of 10hrs after they jump to another system. That can make the beginning of the game a little slow, but a few cycles in you'll find there's plenty to tweak and plan for.

It's looking for a dozen or so more testers to learn the ropes and get a proper game started.

Started playing it after seeing this post and I must say I thoroughly enjoy it.
Currently made my first couple of contacts with other players so I am interested how diplomacy pans out.

Awesome, I'm sure the guys here will give you some valuable input, as long as you don't mind being bored to tears by in depth discussion of mechanics and relativistic physics.

I'll bite, first impression:.......
Your site doesn't load on my phone, heh.
But seriously I'm signing up now.
Edit: oooh, is this a multiplayer browser 4x? I love those!.
Back in the day I used to play "Imperial conflict" and a small indie called ectroverse.

We are just finishing up the current game and a new one will start soon.

Anyone interested, should join the current game and make your novice mistakes now,
so you will be more prepared in the new game.

Well this new game is interesting, some rules have changed a bit so we can't just buy out indi territories anymore, last game there was a lot of long periods of saving up and buying them out.
I've got two other neighbors so far, looking for some opportunity for a bit of piracy, I didn't get to try that last game, but I think it's a bit early for that sort of thing just yet, it might be a bit obvious who's doing it, and too easy to loose the privateers.

one interesting thing with this game is you can jump into it and create a new empire half way through, while you likely won't win on your own doing so, you can affect another player winning or not, and win as a vassal. the emphasis is more on survival than winning outright.

Just jumped on and had a look around, and a quick chat.

It feels nice, I've managed to move around, scout this, attack them and then place down a colony with little fuss.  But having a look at the economy side is going to be fun to get into.  (I am very sleepy atm)

But I like it

New game has started, if you're interested now is the time to jump in.
Starlords3k is such that jumping in a little late (or even a lot) won't particularly hurt you, as larger alliances will still try court you into joining with them.

So far, I am really liking this game.

There's a fairly simple but interesting economic model in place which is very reminiscent of Aurora. In Aurora, you have accessibility thingamajigs that determine your mining capability for example, in SL3K you have mineral value, which combined with your mining Tech level for that mineral determines your output.

There's also crime and piracy modeled, insurgencies and rebellions, it's fairly interesting, yet it doesn't blow your brain up. I think it's exactly because of this simplicity, that makes the whole economic period of the game so complicated. Where to build mines, where to build habs, etc, etc.

But I think it's a game about diplomacy, where the relevant resource for influence is.. well, basically, your industry. Trading trade goods brings you money, and is beneficial for both sides, and on the other hand, giving someone with vastly more military power a 'good' deal could help you live longer.

I'll just make it clear here: I am not gonna make alliances for alliances sake. If I make an alliance, it will be as 'protection' which will of course come with it's own fees and taxes. See you in game!

I grew bored with having to go through the forced mandatory tutorial doing all sorts of unrelated things like selecting forum avatars and writing stuff in the chat client.

Is there a way to skip it and actually play the game?
Title: Re: StarLords3k
Post by: mahks on October 21, 2016, 06:53:32 PM
Just after the setup phase (that ends with the chat post), you will get to "How to build"  then "How fleets work"

Average time in the tutorial is eight minutes.  (so you were a quarter of the way though when you stopped)

The comm panel is used a lot in-game (for diplomacy and advisories) and your avatar is needed in that panel.
So the first step is to get that set up and give you a glimpse of the comm panel.

So I guess that is a no to the question if it can be skipped?

I set your account to bypass that first section.

I meant this mostly as feedback, not personally. Most games / browser games I played that are a bit more advanced allow you an option to bypass the tutorial if you want.

The 2017 episode will begin in a few weeks.

Anyone that has not played before may want to join the current test game to get familiar with it all, before the real game starts

It really is a beautiful game imo, idky i felt the need to rush out of sandbox and land myself in a mp game with more potential decisions than I have to make irl =) Suppose somebody more organised could manage rational play in 30m a day, not me!

Admin is awesome too, hardly run into a problem/bug that wasn't answered, fixed or corrected before it's corrected, use teh feedback =)

I have finally started playing this game a few days ago, and I am enjoying it very much. Just had first player contact yesterday, so I can't say much yet about how the feudal system the games uses plays out in practice, but it looks very interesting to me. The mechanics look solid to me so far, and the admin is friendly and quick to respond to any questions and issues. So far, I can only recommend to try this game.

I've been playing through the training game over the past few days.
There's really a lot of depth here.
The economic model is particularly intriguing.
The setup encourages cooperation over combat, which should make the universe a friendly place for new players.
Anyone with an itch for a slow-burn multiplayer 4x should give it a look.

Guess no one made a post on the new game that started a few months ago.

We are now in end game and it's been pretty wild. Several realms are in all out battle for end game winning with huge ships being deployed and destroyed. Been a real fun one thus far.

My password no longer worked.  I try to reset it but the reset email never arrives.
Had no luck contacting admin, so created new account.

Anyway, not the end of the world in any case. Good luck with your game!
