Terran Empire - Part Twelve (June 7 2051-January 1 2053)
« on: January 09, 2012, 06:37:10 PM »
June 5th 2051:  Patrick I is furious at the loss of the fleet.  He asks for and receives emergency powers from the Senate, suspending elections for the duration of the crisis.  The military will be totally rebuilt along new lines, using Duchess Bellis' designs, to fight the "Silent Horde" as the media has come to call the threat.  He also forces through the Civilian Shipping Subside Act of 2051.

June 19th 2051:  As part of the program, the high command is reshuffled Rear Admiral Candia is officially removed from her position, to be replaced with the newly promoted LaVern Vogelsberg.  The Emperor manages to avoid making this a political issue and upsetting the Militarists, as Candia is one of the defacto heads of the party, because Vogelsberg seemed to get the tacit endorsement of Rear Admiral Skyers, who was also a Militarist.  She herself is non-partisan though.  Due to shortages of officers, Candia is not forced to retire, though she does a few months later anyway.  Titus Schrodt, head of intelligence, will work closely with Vogelsberg and is promoted to Rear Admiral as well. The reshuffle also allows some officers who'd either been overlooked or formerly discrased a second chance to make a name for themselves.  There is tough competition for command of the missile bases on Earth.

June 30th 2051:  Using a massive grant, Nottage Shipping and Logistics (NSL) founds a mining colony on Titania with the help the the military, as it will be some time before they can launch their own ships which are under construction.  The facility only has around 100 personnel, but a squad of Imperial Marines will guard them nonetheless.  Some experts from the Imperial staff also will live there to provide their talents in setting up the facility.  The government will purchase the minerals directly.

August 5th 2051:  Using government grants, a new civilian shipping line opens, Linn Marine.

September 5th 2051:  Two engineering brigades are trained on Earth.

October 6th 2051:  NSL launches the first commerical colony ship, along with its growing freighter fleet.  It's Titania facility is expanding rapidly.

October 30th 2051:  Plans for a Mars outpost are drawn up in a hurry, to take advantage of the rapid  increase in transportation.  The minerals there aren't as vital as some, or in as high demand, but still valuable.

December 7th 2051:  With the generation 2 freighters and colony ships, Mars is quickly set up for habitation.  A lot less effort is needed here than on Raye, and regular runs by NSL quickly boost the population.  In fact, at times the rapidly growing domed city has trouble keeping up with demand for housing.

January 17th 2052:  Designs for three new classes drawn up.  The Argentina class fast scout will be a quick military design and also serve as the new generation of sensor/command vessel.  The Hero class area defense cruiser will use lasers and missiles to intercept small targets.  The Oregon class cruiser will provide the big punch of the fleet, with larger launchers.  By the time they roll out, new missile designs will hopefully be ready as well.

February 19th 2052:  Terraforming operations begin on Mars by adding oxygen to the atmosphere.

June 7th 2052:  Uridium is depleted on Earth, the first mineral to run out.  Titania is picking up the slack quite nicely.

July 7th 2052:  Mining begins on Mars.

September 21st 2052:  New JP found in Lacaille 8760.  Exploration yields Gliese 784, a red dwarf barely large enough to sustain fusion.  The system is barren, but has some kind of stable wormhole...  TES Outreach doesn't risk exploring, and command decides to quarantine the system for the time being.

October 7th 2052:  Linn Marine launches it's first colony ship.  The population of Mars is a staggering 5 million.
