Interest in pickets?
« on: October 21, 2013, 01:57:59 AM »
hi,

Just wanting to confirm something... What are the benefits of having your combat fleet spread into sub formations, distant from each other? Aside from early warning thanks to scanners, it seems that concentrating your fleet in the same task group is the way to go, if you want to maximize anti-missile capabilities, right?

Or there are subtleties that escape me. I can consider also that a group of missiles homing at one of your sub task group will not be able to retarget itself, this can be a good thing!

Basically, when do you maintain all your warships in a single TG and when you decide to spread in more or less elaborate fan patterns?  :)

You are not doing much wrong by keeping everything in one TG.
Uses I have found is positioning beam-armed escorts in a forward position, so they can fire twice at the same flight of missiles, or positioning support ships that can't be sent away behind the battle group to give the PD of the TG more time should those get targeted.
