A search only managed to confuse me more, and the download links are not very informative.  Which downloads do I require, in which order unzipped to which locations and so forth to get the full game working?

You need to install/patch in order of version number as lower numbers are earlier versions. First follow the instructions for the Aurora v4.75 Full Installation.

1) Download AuroraInstall and unzip it. You will have four files called Aurora.CAB, Setup.exe, Setup.LST and AuroraUpdate475.zip
2) Run Setup.exe. This will run a standard Microsoft install program, installing to the default C:\Program Files\Aurora directory. If you are asked about overwriting any existing files with older files, make sure you keep the existing files
3) Unzip AuroraUpdate475.zip into the same directory (usually C:\Program Files\Aurora but check to make sure!) and answer yes to overwriting Aurora.exe and Stevefire.mdb.

Then patch to v4.80. Unzip the Aurora480.zip.exe into the installation directory, overwriting two files.

Then patch to v4.82. Unzip into the installation directory and overwrite Aurora.exe.
