I too have a soft spot for Venus, that industrial advantage will even things up fairly fast if it can be maintained.

I've cheated, and (using Ver 6.2 db) had a look at the races in late 1902 - as I was curious about the "advantages" each race had. And I've found out that the advantages aren't quite what you'd think......

For example, Venus has nearly twice the R&D installations that Mars has - and yet is only just generating slightly more RP's/year then Mars, due to Mar's high tech.

And there are similar things with the other fields (such as construction, mining, shipyards, etc.).....

The situation isn't quite that bad for Venus. The venusians do have a +30% planetary industrial advantage and will be the prime recipients of Osmotic Tech Transfer, if applicable. If the industrial advantage can be maintained and infrastructure-damaging wars and mineral crunches avoided then they will, slowly, start to make up the shipyard and research lab differences.

Further, neither Tianxia nor the British can allow the other to conquer Venus least the industry transfer make one decisively stronger than the other. If one did try, then the other would find the moral and strategic opportunity to attack while the opposing fleet was low on ammunition and away from home.

The odds are poor, some luck will be required, and the venusians may act as pawns in the early years: but if the venusians can avoid getting pushed aside from suitable off-planet expansion then they may, in 50 years or more, become a galactic power.

I can't wait to see what actually happens. I'll be cheering for Venus.

The added industry will mean that when the crunch hits, it will hit earlier and harder then for the other two races.

And as they will be getting off-planet last, the venusians will have to settle for the mineral-poor planets that are left over.

However, I agree - if they can survive the crunch in reasonable form, they may prove to be a long-term threat.

Maybe they are lucky and find some ruins/wrecks. You can pull some nice stuff out of them.

Steve: When can we expect the next chapter?

I dont know. The Venusian can muster far more ships which gives them a exploring advantage ad they could do pirating which stalls the other empires. They could also get lucky and have a heavy star behind theyr Jump-point.

Mmmm.

A couple of points:
1) the venusians had the smallest starting fleet (only 6 Ktons, compared to the humans 144 Ktons of warships).
2) the venusians have the smallest starting shipyards. By mid report, the venusians had built an additional 14 Kublai, so by the end of the report, they would have had ~34 Kublai (or 34 Ktons of warships). Over this time period, the humans had built an additional 84 Ktons of warships (to a total of ~230 Kton).
3) the venusians have the lowest tech.

So while the venusians may have the largest fleet in numbers, they are being out-built, out-massed, and out-teched.

Sorry to say, but the only way they can come close, is by relying on luck.....

Cool to see, definitely. Successful?
I, uh, whipped up a simple simulator for WH1 hits against 1 layer of armor and ran the numbers. If all seven Minotaurs emptied their magazines, that's 57 salvos of 5 anti-torpedoes. Per Kublai.
Completely ignoring the actual effects of taking damage, over a hundred iterations the average internal damage suffered by each FAC is... 157.
Ouch. They'd get murdered 17 times over with their internal HTK of 9.
(Mind you, all twenty FAC are only 60% the cost of all of those missiles. Not all of those missiles would probably be fired, but still.)

New Steve campaign, woop woop!

While it would look that Mars will face the usual Chinese fate and Venus the classic USSR fate, perhaps the British Empire will be racked by internal division, as USA/Germany/Austria/France/Russia/Japan or, more likely, all of them combined, challenge her dominant position?

But yeah, really hoping for a massive Venusian FAC attack against humans and martians, would be so cool to see.

Poor Martians.

They are in the same position that the early Chinese were against the British.  I wonder if we will see a Boxer rebellion in this version as well.

I'm a FAQ guy myself but I think the Venusians would get their hat handed to them by Earth.  Earth just needs to advance their missile tech faster than the Venusians. Though, Earth really does need some gauss weapons for second layer PD and fly swatters.

I dont know. The Venusian can muster far more ships which gives them a exploring advantage ad they could do pirating which stalls the other empires. They could also get lucky and have a heavy star behind theyr Jump-point.

If they go Pirating they could hunt down the Shipingline-ships of the other empires by shooting them down or even capturing them they could cripple earth and Mars. Those depend on heavy fleets so they would be spread far to thin to respond properly to hit and run tactics. A direct attack on Venus would likewise ill advised since it would open one world to the other during the Campaing and War on Venus would also mean Heavy losses against that battle-stations.

---
Just a random thought: Mars could go with a similar strategy but with stationing PDC on Phobos and Deimos. Since they dont have Athmosphere heavy laser-armament would should anything down that comes to close.
---

Capturing the enemy shiping-lines would also give the Venusians for theyr tech-advantage and could give them a stronger Mining-base if these ships are trasporting facilities.

Last but not least: You have tofactor in that the Venusians dont use any ordinance that has to be build. Mars and Earth would pay tons of minerals to have they magazins filled. Depending on how Good the Venusian PD this could mean that they expend far more missiles then the venusian Tonnage is worth.

Its the Venusians for me.

I think that the Venusians are doomed - as by the time they start to expand, all of the best real estate will already be taken.

This will result in the duranium crunch hitting them harder then the martians/humans, resulting in them falling even further behind....

It will be interesting to see it all pan out though!

I suspected this would be in the fashion of good old science fiction novels.

...and the Chinese began already conquered,  the Martians are of course doomed by using the Chinese theme.  So is the Venusian navy going to have a Golden Horde TF?
