Aurora Chat / Re: How Many Types of Missiles Do you Need?
« on: March 18, 2018, 12:53:50 PM »
How do you all get away with such large missiles? I mostly use size 2 or 3, anything larger and pd weapons (especially railguns) become so space effective that it becomes easy to get all incoming missiles shot down by final fire pd, making larger missiles completely useless unless I use box launchers only.

Or do you play against the ai, which is notoriously bad at pd?

Launcher size scales with ship size. So the bigger the ship, the bigger the missile. In the same number of launchers. So salvo size is not decreased at all.

Size 1 AMM
A "light missile", usually in the 3-6 size range
A "medium missile", usually 2x the light.
A "heavy missile", usually 2x the medium.

A heavy MIRV that holds light missiles.

Please add some sort of capability to create separate magazines. If the fore magazine blows, there is no guarantee the aft one will (unless there is too much damage).

I don't recall which update or patch that change came on, but I do recall when Steve implemented it.  There was quite a bit of discussion but in the end it was pretty much a no-brainer and we all moved on.  LOL

I know it was a result of one of Steve's multi-national Earth starts.

And the appropriate response for favorite game should be Aurora ;)

It's not supposed to ;)

The fact that it does is a bug :D

Backups are simply copying the stevefire.mdb and storing it elsewhere. Restore is pasting the backup over the live version. Just don't do it while Aurora is open. :D

PDCs are not supposed to go orbital :)

As for the question thing, I changed that one. That restriction should also go away at a certain post count.

2.    "What number am I thinking of?" What the hell is that kind of question? Does it want a concrete answer or is it something general?  Like "question" or "sentence".    Or metaphorical? It is not 42.    I may have gotten it right once and forgotten it the next day.    Is the answer obvious to someone from English speaking country or from north am? Or is it just a dastardly ploy to make people register or go away with a heart attack?

Since you have an account, you don't need to worry about the question again. I believe that it is just on account registration. I will check this.

Don't delete us lurkers!

As I mentioned earlier, the only accounts considered for deletion are zero posts, invalid emails, and no logins for 3+ months. If any one of the conditions is not met, then you are safe.

Sounds like I need to be more chatty.

You got posts, you're cool. :)

are the inactive accounts hurting the website at all?

There are nearly 10,000 accounts here now. My estimate is that maybe 2500 are actively participating. Other than consuming database space, they are doing no harm. It's the ones with invalid emails that give me bounce notices I'm talking about. As long as the email is valid, I don't care about them. :)

I've never used either of those two orders.

I have. Easy to make fire & forget survey forces. Just include a conditional for 50% fuel to fuel at nearest location, and survey. Only need to stop them for upgrades and the like.

Like this?

Do those colors match the Galactic map notations for the same? My preference would be to have consistent colors between the two.

What about forcing a password change for accounts that seem inactive?  Then for those accounts that don't change their password after several months can be considered for deletion?

I could, but they would not get an email notifying them of the need to change their email address. If I were to change your password or force the change for your account, you should get an email. With an invalid email, no notification, and if they legit attempt to log in, it will fail.

Might catch some legitimate accounts who have changed email but only login to post occasionally and usually just browse. No idea how many people that might be though.

Do you receive any stats on people browsing without logging in?

I'd have to correlate last logged IP with guest IP's. I'm thinking that would be a pain in the keester.  Right now, there are 30 guests on the forum. Not counting spiders/web crawlers. I'm certain some of those are still bots. But the only information I get on a guest is the IP address.

I could amend it to only accounts with zero posts, bounced emails (due to non-existent emails), and no logins in 3+ months.
