Any interest in a community game?
« on: April 03, 2016, 06:14:00 PM »
I was thinking of a 2-3 team community game might be fun.

This is the basic concept I was thinking of.

1.  I would run the game, with a backup of the database on dropbox.
2.  I would take screenshots of the needed screens and post them, and take orders for commands.  Running 1 month or major event turns.   I am thinking on the lines of the famous "The coldest War" Community game.   Yes I know that means I will be doing a lot of work.
3.  Game would start as a Conventional start, but with Trans-Newtonian already researched.   To make the start more fun, I would give each side a extra 200 mines to make sure the minerals flow.
4.  I would play one side, then have 1-2 teams of board players, with the players voting in case consensus cannot be reached.   Or allow each person to run a specific area.  How it up to the players, but I would just ask that each team have some sort of clear way to make a final choice.  In addition, some sort of backups for key leaders if they are not around for a X-amount of time.
5.  The setting is 2-3 empires seeking the stars, and on there would be growth also on earth (for role playing well) with rewards of populations, Conventional industry, and the like.   I would playing the South African Free-state, letting players choose if they want to play something on the lines of the EU, North America, China, ect.  I want the players forming the teams to have some creativity.  However the idea of a cold war race for the stars is important.

So, is there anyone wanting to do this or shall I put this to the back-burner?

I would like to try playing a community game sometime, but with uni going on for me I'm not sure whether I can always find the time to pitch in when needed. But put me down for the time being and we'll see how things go.

I want to be aboard for this.  Used to play community games in Civilization a long time ago and it was great fun.

Well I want to wait and see how many people want to play, but 3 yeses and a part time means that should be enough to start a least a 2 side game, with the community as one team and me playing the other side.    ;D

How do i go about getting a subforum?   Steve?

I am also in if possible, and I'd want to side with AL here. :)

We have to clarify the rules in advance though. Like how voting works; do they get even votes, or is it maybe point based, depending on how high ranked some of your representative officers have risen. Or is it all just up to the team, but then there will be favor to more efficient ruling instead of realistic(=somewhat divided) and RP inciting?(though still ok. It just has to be clear how exactly.)

Okay, I will propose something - this isn't set in stone.
All the players are put into one team.

Council of 5 - A 5 person council votes to make the big choices - One top administrator, head of the Navy, Top Scientist, and two "At Large" seats.
This council votes on actions.  They can delegate powers as they see fit and organize other bodies or groups as needed (For example, a design board for ships), assign diplomats, and so on.
There would be a list of alternate in case one of the five members is out of town or otherwise unable to post.
All players are allowed to submit ideas or otherwise discuss plans.
Hopefully, for the most part, consensus on plans can be reached by negotiation.

Game start will be 800 million population, 25 research labs, and a extra 80 mines and 20 automines. (I will be boosting the mineral supply on earth, and a conventional start with Trans-Newtonian already researched)  Team will have one Naval and one commercial shipyard.

I will run the "other" side.   I do hope for some diplomatic play in the race to the stars.

Does this sound like a good proposal?

I would be up for this, but if you give it a few days we might get enough people for a second team as well.

We will see.  I would prefer to have one well stocked team then two sparse teams that risk falling apart if 2-3 players get too busy to play.

You're not the boss of me! Unless it ends up that way in the game I guess.
