Things to remember before sending ships into combat.
« on: February 05, 2008, 04:22:10 PM »
1. Did you load the magazines?
2. Do your toughest ships have active sensors?
3. Did you stick all your colliers/tenders/tankers with the battle fleet?
4. Did you launch your fighters/parasites?
5. Did you arm your fighters/parasites?

Any more?

Are your missiles homogenous? If using older and newer missiles the ranges may be different. Having a quarter of your salvo expire short of your target and thus not be available to saturate your targets defenses can make it very difficult to hit your target. I hate it when that happens....

do you have enough fuel? i haven't encounted hostiles in my game yet (or any aliens, actually), but in the game i was using to experiment with the controls i wound up stranding a fleet halfway between the orbits of saturn and Uranus because i hadn't remembered to refuel them the last time they were at earth.

more of a strategic issue, but if your looking at any kind of running battle it's a good thing to remember.

As an adjunct to mithril's comment, Do you have enough spares? Nothing sucks like having your Jump ship run out of spares and have the only jump drive in the fleet go away.

Have you made your fire control/weapons assignments?

Have you set your point defense modes and engagement ranges?

Did your top off your carriers magazines after primary loadout of fighters?
