When do colonies start to produce trade goods?
« on: January 12, 2013, 12:45:09 PM »
I have two colonies with 2,27m and 1,95m citizens.  The wiki states that with 1m citizens colonies start producing trade goods, yet my colonies so far only demand infrastructure.  Is there any tech i missed (i started with a conventional empire), or was the limit raised in a patch? I have looked extensively in this forum but did not find an answer.

Tech shouldn't matter (I assume you have trans-newtonian, but I don't think even that should matter).

My guess is the wiki is incorrect.  You might see what happens at 3m - I have a vague recollection of that being one of the breaks.

Note that you just get a few trade goods at first - there are at least two break values.

As john mentioned, the amount of trade goods is of no practical value until you have hundreds of millions of residents.

I'm addicted to traffic though; I think things kick up in the 10s of millions.

I did?  :)  Good point though.

Now that I think of it, 3 and 10 million for breaks sounds familiar.

You're right, with 3,06m citizens Luna produces Construction Materials, Infrastructure, Machinery and Textiles.

Here is the listing from the DB.  On the left is the trade good, on the right is the required population at a colony before it starts producing that trade good (in millions).

I updated the wiki with this info.
