Missiles and wormhole assaults
« on: January 17, 2017, 01:18:31 PM »
In Star Fire you could fire missiles in an offensive mode into a wormhole, I know that only task groups can enter and I presume there is a techno babble for this but I never found it. So is there a way to send waves of missiles threw? If not, why not?

Build expendable small ships stuffed with box launchers and auto-seeking missiles and put them into a carrier.  Then either send them through on standard transits or develop a jump-pod to send through through on squadron transits.

But it would suffer from jump blindness and could be killed before it can launch. Maybe to be fair missiles shot through a jump point should also suffer from jump blindness for a while before they can target anything, but at least it would be more targets to shoot down and less economic investment in total. If jumping missiles was possible to begin with that is.

Hmm, if player ramming was possible you could send kamikaze fighters through and use as missiles.

SBMHAWKs were not immune to jump shock, it's pretty much the same.

What happens to a ship inside a hanger when the parent ship jumps? I have to assume you can't launch from a hanger untill the mothership has recovered from jump shock, and that even if you could launch it early it's own sensors would still be useless. But can't you still launch missiles at waypoints even with sensor blindness or insufficient sensor range anyway?

". . .  We know nothing about them, their language, their history or what they look like.  But we can assume this.  They stand for everything we don't stand for.  Also they told me you guys look like dorks. "

The parasites can launch but are also affected by jump shock.
