My Aurora Systems - 3D
« on: January 23, 2012, 08:06:53 PM »
Before anything, I'm not certain this is the right place to put it, but it's aurora related so... Move if there's a better place. With that said:

So I recently(-ish) purchased a neat program called universe sandbox. Basically a "piss around with physics" game.

Anyway, I decided to try rendering some of my aurora generated systems with it. My first try was Ross 248 (I randomly chose a system, probably good that it was an easy one as this is my first serious try creating a system).

To Aurora it looks like this:

I got the star as close as I could (I think the luminosity ended up being slightly different), plopped the planet and the asteroid field in place and it looks like this.

First one, a long shot with no background to show the system (asteroids don't show up well against the milky-way backdrop):

Ross 248A I

Ross 248

Ok, so it's not very impressive atm, I did end up with an easy system. And it looks much better in motion. But it's a start ;D

Also, the yellow line is a tail to show the motion of the planet, I didn't turn it off before taking the first screenshots but did for the last.

I'll post up my future attempts if anyone is interested?

Edit: For comparison to the aurora pic:

This will prehaps give a better sense of scale to the inner system:

Some without the background so you can see the asteroids:

hey awesome!

Now get it so U-Sandbox pulls the files straight out of the MDB database and renders our space combat too!!

;)

Find some of those interesting binary and quaternary systems that people write about on the forum and plug those in there.  See if they're stable!

Oh god, I have no idea how to make stable more-than-binaries atm. A friend says they know though, so I'll ask. After I've gotten some practice in. >.>

Wow, that planet is REALLY close to the star!

Stop using imageshack, seriously.

All I can see of the screenshots is:

Plenty other services don't have that bullsmeg, like imgur.com

I just finished up sirius... A binary system with 4 planets, one of which has 14 moons (and another with 4). I expected half to crash into the planet immediately and the other half to be ejected, but somehow... they're all stable.

Will post some screenshots up later. Will find somewhere that isn't imageshack.

If you can see the screenshots it means your domain is registered, either you created an imageshack account or by your ISP.  Considering I don't own my domain, my ISP does, and I am not interested in registering to a site that uses this smegty technique to increase their page visits and increase advertising revenue, I respectfully ask that you switch image servicers.

Some more info:

I am sure I am not the only person who has this problem.

Sorry, haven't forgotten, I've just been kinda busy. Will get around screenshotting it and choosing a different upload site soon enough. Also another system which is p. cool (but apparently there's a rounding error for very-close moon orbits at long distances from the star when saving/loading, so a couple of my moons need to be reset every time I load to stop them crashing into the primary body).

I played around with Universe Sandbox some years ago, it was quiet fun playing pool with planets! You have more patience than I do if you managed to create your own systems. Looks nice in any case!

Another vote for Imgur, it's a reliable site with no extra-hassle, no need to register or anything and they can handle batches as well.

kk, I'll try Imgur then.

I've been busy, my water pipes burst in the cold weather and flooded my bathroom among other things, but hopefully will get some time this weekend.
