follow superior formations
« on: September 29, 2011, 11:03:42 AM »
so, I've multiple survey ships, each in his task group so that each one could survey his own target. There are grav ship, geo ship, some have planet&moon priority, some all body and such.

now, I'd like to move them all in group when I've finished with a system, without getting mad at tracking them all. it's still doable when one survey one system at time, but when there are multiple survey fleets in different system all working on their tasks I keep loosing track of them.

I've put a fuel harvesting tanker in a separate task group and put every other task group under that but I can't move them in formation from one system to another. I've also put them on a hierarchy in the naval organization but it seems there are no additional command to move them all.

what I'm trying to obtain there is that when on the galaxy map I see the system as fully explored I can move all the task groups to another system just giving one or two order, haing them all following suit. any idea?

Don't maintain the seperate task groups.  Join them into a single TG and send them to the new system.  There are several different TG orders you can use to seperate if once it arrives in the system to be surveyed.  Use Detach Non-Survey Ships, Transit and Divide Fleet, Incorporate Sub-Fleets, Divide Fleet into Single Ships along with default orders go a long way to solving the issue.  Yes, there is some management and it's not fully automated but it's a far cry from having to maintain seperate TG's all the time.

Helps you keep of track of what your intended formations are. Also very useful for carrier operations.

You can create "Carrier Group" and then "1st Strike Wing" and "2nd Strike Wing" under it. In the future, you can assign parasites(fighters) from each branch to their own TG with one click.
