How do I use prebuilt/salvaged components?

To speed up the building of my two sensor frigates I prebuilt the sensors and engines, but now I can't figure out how to use them. 

Does it happen automatically perhaps?

Yep - they are consumed when you schedule the SY task.  You should see the completion date show up as sooner than expected, once the task is scheduled.

NOTE: if you cancel the SY task the components will be lost....
