First fight - problem with targeting
« on: September 10, 2016, 08:02:33 PM »
Okay.  I've just started my 2th game and this is my real first battle, but i can do nothing, enemy ship (one!) was shooting me at range 94m km and  I couldn't target him, now he shot all his missiles and came to range 14m km and 4k km and i still can't shoot him.

No attempt to fire due to zero chance to hit
"
And my question is why?

Is it because of sensors?

How does the Xenon X have a sensor rating of 1/1/0/0 with sensors on board?

To answer your question, yes. Your ships cannot see their target.

More specifically, while your search sensor on the Xenon X has over 230 million kilometer range, your fire control sensors have a listed range of 144 THOUSAND kilometers, or less than 1/2 light second.  On the other hand, even with a longer ranged fire control, beam weapons in game are limited to 5 light seconds range (1.5 million km), I believe, because 5 seconds is the minimum turn length.  This allows the beam to get to the target in less than one turn.  So you will have to close to within 144k km in order to fire on the enemy due to your fire control sensor range.

Perhaps your active sensors aren't turned on?

". . .  We know nothing about them, their language, their history or what they look like.  But we can assume this.  They stand for everything we don't stand for.  Also they told me you guys look like dorks. "

According to the information given, you are targeting something at 15,000,000km away when your max range is 144,000km. Check which target your fire controls are targeting.
