The Great Crusade - Background and Starting Conditions
« on: January 04, 2019, 12:47:22 PM »
The Great Crusade is the third test campaign for C# Aurora and the first one that is intended to be close to the 'normal' c# campaign. It has one TN Player Race with a billion population plus two NPRs. The new versions of Precursors and Swarm are both active. As this is a test, I am going to keep the background limited in scope. I am going to keep this thread locked so I can post further startup information and keep it all together

In the mid-21st Century, Earth was struck by a fast-moving asteroid, heading into the Sol system from well above the plane of the ecliptic. It was seen only days before impact. Despite frantic missile launches from several nuclear powers, it could not be deflected and the world was plunged into a new dark age, both literally and figuratively, as civilisation collapsed and the sun was blocked out by the debris clouds. In the decades that followed, some semblance of civilisation returned with the emergence of small city states. As territories expanded, small wars began once again. One state, known as the Imperium and based loosely on the Roman Empire, expanded quickly as a result of conquering its neighbours with swift and effective military campaigns. Those campaigns were aided by propaganda from the Imperium claiming that the devastation on Earth was the result of an alien attack. This was supported by old news footage showing nuclear missiles heading up into space from many different countries. The Imperium stated that its only goal was to unite humanity against the alien threat. This was effectiveness enough to bring some small powers into the fold without military action and the Imperium grew.

By the late-22nd century, Earth was united under the banner of the recently renamed Terran Imperium. Whether the original propaganda was based on an honest belief or not was now irrelevant. Over two hundred years it was now the accepted wisdom across the globe that aliens were an existential threat and that the Imperium had to be ready for their return. Trans-Newtonian physics were discovered and the Imperium become a Trans-Newtonian Power, building factories, shipyards and research facilities. Spacecraft were built, although remained in Earth orbit initially. The leader of the Imperium, known only as The Emperor, did not want to venture into space until humanity was ready. On the symbolic date of January 1st 2300, he gave the order for the first survey ships to leave orbit.

The campaign restart has 1 NPR and 160k starting research points. Otherwise as per these screenshots.
