iirc. it depends on the thickness of your Athmo. I usaly have one or two additional PDCs on the moon for PD ... thought that needs RANGE badly.

Lasers do half damage through an atmosphere is my understanding...am I wrong?

I think it's a percentage of damage equal to the remainder from 100%. 50% atmo gives you 50% damage. 25% atmo gives you 75% damage, and so on.

That´s my recollection too (I did a quick search, but couldn´t find a post from Steve about that). I also seem to remember, that damage is rounded down to the next full number, so if you are in a 0.75 atm atmosphere and your laser deals less than 4 points of damage, you will deal no damage at all (Gauss are obviously totally useless in any form of atmosphere due to this with CIWS being an exception to that, I think).

Ack...well then I need to re-design the forts...they currently have 6 laser turrets each...but the ones on Mars and the Moon are useful...to defend the colonists there anyway.

Yes that's how I thought it worked as well. I think Messons are the only option if you want to use energy weapon defences on a PDC in any sort of atmosphere.

PS Well done with managing to engage and destory that Wolver ship. Given the massive gap in technology I think that was a pretty good achievement. Now all you need to do is get yourself some salvagers.

Thank you.  Salvagers are on order...delivery time is measured in years unfortunately.  I have no logistics scientist so when the current project for my Terraformer specialist is done I'll have him work on them.

I'll work on a design for an orbital PD base once I have a better idea what my next fire control system looks like.

So now we have a new hero. Commodore Ewan Ahmed. The true savior of Earth. BTW, is the pilot of the Pinnance, Ensign Terry Prey a real character in the game? She is interesting.

I can't wait to see the next generation of NCN warship.

If I could edit the database I would add her in...Ensign, 2nd Lt.  and Lt. characters are just story characters.  Glad you and everyone else enjoyed the write up.

I am back to advancing things in 1 day turns rather than 5 second turns and have a few months to go before the end of the year.  I have to do some rolling to determine what happens on the political front and so on.  Starslayer is telling me we have at least one Starfire combat to play through and I'm recovering from the battles (both Aurora and Starfire) which were draining.

What I am unsure of it what effect destroying the Taiho 2 will have on the public...my feeling is that there is an initial downswing in government popularity followed by an upswing when the navy is sucessful.  I think I will do a 2d10 roll for the government and a 2d10 roll for the opposition and see who gained the most from it.

I wasn't aware I could add officers to the list...I'll have to look at that page in more detail it seems.  At least, unlike the last Pinnace pilot that got his name in lights, she survived her period of heroism.

It's just one teeny battle. Maybe a second, small one. T202 is where things really happen i suspect.

What I mean was that you can change the name of the existing female officer (new officer).

For the destroying Taiho 2, there will be these after effect :

1. The opposition will blame Margenrot and Nimm for the plan to disturb the WOLF 359 Alien. Their argument is based on "IF you don't disturb them, then Taiho 2 won't coming to Earth". Diana Nimm will go to jail, or at least to military court as she was the one who planned it.

2. Ewan Ahmed will become the Hero of Earth. You should give him and the other participants in combat with badge / star

3. Your NCN Public Relation officer will announce the birth of a new generation warship that will ensure the safety of Solar System. So the next gen starship will get a lot of publication like it will become your hero ship / flagship. Ewan Ahmed will goes to TV more than attend his duty as a captain / commodore.

4. The wormhole to Wolf 359 will be shut down / barricade with the strongest NCN Warships to tell people that Earth is really really safe.

Well, officially, the government will consider Wolf 359 as a restricted space where no one can go there. But you still can do something to cheat this. Like conducting a secret operation, etc. Or, there will a hardliner politician will emerge (just like Hitler) who will declare war against the alien and strike Wolf 359 again in the future.

I think you have just become the official voice of the radical's  *laughs* I will be starting the write up today though the game is advanced now into spring the next year.

But I bet Ewan Ahmed will become better hero than Morgenrot. Just imagine it. What Margenrot did was to witness his commander death. Diana Nimm was the same. They are not Heroes. But no Ewan Ahmed and the captains of the ships who save Earth are heroes. Because they destroyed Taiho 2. So what will this heroes become in the future? That's what I want to see.

Actually the are and did theyr best in deffending earth. Winning doesnt make you a hero and such wins make often cocky. Ahmed could get a seriou8s beatdown in the next meeting with the aliens if they use another type of ship.
