This makes it a trade off of redundancy and HTK versus Shield strength.     

That would make more sense than my understanding of it.    But it's not what the change list says.    It say: "This means a 10 HS generator will have standard strength, a 1 HS generator will have 32% of normal strength and 50 HS generator will have 224% of normal strength" which indicates to me that a single HS 1 generator has 32% of the strength of a HS 10 generator.    But let's do some math here, just to illustrate my point.     

Assuming base shield strength is 100 for simplicities sake, let's see what 50 HS 1 shields would do.     
(100*SQRT(1/10))*50 = 1581.  138 shield points, or 1581 of a single HS 1 generator
Meanwhile 5 size 10 generators gives us:
(100*SQRT(10/10))*5 = 500 shield points
And just for fun even though we already know the answer:
(100*SWRT(50/10)*1 = 223.  6 shield points for 1 size 50 shield generator. 

I guess I should have added 'per HS' to that line.  A 1 HS will have 32% of normal strength per HS, while a 50 HS will have 224% of normal strength per HS.

That does make more sense, thanks for clarifying.
