Max Database Size and Slimming
« on: November 26, 2008, 05:36:09 PM »
Is there a maximum size of the database in SA?  Is it dependent on the version (SA 7.0 can handle a large (over 100mb) database better than older versions)?

I am about to take a 147mb database, add more data to it, in order to run battles and stuff.  Do I need to trim the size of the database, and if so, how can I easily trim the size?

In Access, compact the databases before combining them. That will probably help some.

I am not sure about how to compact them (I have never used Acess), but if there is no upside limit, then it does not matter, right?  Or I can wait until it gets closer to that upside limit.

The is a limit on size, but I believe it is close to 1,000 meg's.

The limit is 2Gb I think, same as MSDE.
There's an option on the Miscellaneous menu in SA to Compact the database.
Access is a swine for growing the db, so use the option provided by the good Mr W

Ok, thanks all.  I think I will not have to worry about size for a while then.  Now is there a way to combine certain aspects of two databases together?  I need to be able to add fleet data from one database to another in order to use the battle calculator

No, you can't combine databases because of the Unique ID problems. I guess it would be possible to write an application to do it, depending on what information you wanted to combine, but it would be a lot of work.

What I would like to do is add fleet data to an existing database so I can use the battle resolver. It is a shame that the battle resolver cannot take other databases for input.
