Title: Clarity Question
Post by: Erik L on November 17, 2010, 02:13:50 PM
This is the section on Organic Improvement tech.

Quote
Organic Improvement Tech I
This allows one planet to increase its Organic Index by 1 (max +1).
Organic Improvement Tech II
This allows one planet to increase its Organic Index by 1 (max +2).
Organic Improvement Tech III
This allows one planet to increase its Organic Index by 1 (max +3).
Organic Improvement Tech IV
This allows one planet to increase its Organic Index by 1 (max +4).
Organic Improvement Tech V
This allows one planet to increase its Organic Index by 1 (max +5).

How is this interpreted by the reader? I'd like to see if what others read and understand is what I am intending.

A planet starts with Organic Index of say 4, for each level researched they can increase the index by 1 with the maximum at the end of the tech tree being 9 for that planet?

Correct.

I would lose the "(max +x)".

If you can only take each improvement once, that's already taken care of.

That actually leads to potential confusion.  I understand what you are trying to say but it could be interpreted as allowing 2 levels of Organic Improvement Tech II and three levels of Organic Improvement Tech III, etc.

What he said :-)  I suffered from the same confusion when reading it, but couldn't think of a good way to phrase it.

Issue is, the tech can be researched multiple times, but each level may only be applied to a specific planet once.

Why not then just say: max 1 per planet

Also, are previous levels a prerequisite for subsequent levels?  If so and it's not a general rule (stated elsewhere), you should mention that here.

Is the assumption that each planet has a different biosphere, thus requiring separate research?  If so, then this tech would be an exception to a general rule and stating the "max 1 per planet" will help point this out.

If there is a different reason for needing it researched once per planet, that seems to be more an improvement than a tech.  I don't know if it would break internal consistency but I would suggest seperating it so that a society researches it once to get the capacity and then pay to implement it on each planet.

The way it currently works, each planet needs to have each level researched specifically for it before it can be implemented.

I do like the idea of research once, pay per planet. That does fit in better with the rest of the research rules.
